The Information Network for The Third Sector or just RITS, is a private, independent, non-profit organization founded in 1997 as a virtual information network focused on strengthening civil society organizations and social movements and by encouraging the interaction of initiatives and projects through effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) - especially those involving the Internet. RITS is also an APC (Association for Progressive Communications) member.
[edit] RITS Projects
Below is an incomplete list of some RITS own ongoing projects or that the organization is involved in:
- Sacix - Operating System for telecentres based on Debian GNU/Linux.
- Ritsnet - RITS own Internet Service Provider focused on providing services to NGOs and socially responsible companies (content available only in Brazilian Portuguese).
- Grauna - Grauna is a website that acts as a search frontend for Google and intentionally returns NGOs biased results. It's a interesting choice for people involved with NGOs and also can show results just from Ritsnet customers.
- Petrobras/Fome Zero - Brazilian telecentres and social inclusion project.
- RETS - Third Sector online magazine (content available only in Brazilian Portuguese).
- OPPI - Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) related website (content available only in Brazilian Portuguese).
- Wifi in Amazon - Connecting isolated communities and a medical boat in the forest, using wireless technology to spread Internet connectivity and more.
