[edit] Comma?
Grammar would usually imply that the title "Ripon College Cuddesdon" should have a comma: "Ripon College, Cuddesdon". Is it the College's policy not to use a comma in its name? Tamino 19:43, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that is correct. According to normal usage, "Ripon College, Cuddesdon" would mean that the name of the establishment was "Ripon College" and it was located in Cuddesdon. In fact it is never (or almost never) called "Ripon College" - any shortening of the name is usually to "Cuddesdon". Omitting the comma also means that both parent institutions (Cuddesdon College and Ripon Hall) are included in the name, with neither being subsidiary to the other. (Perhaps a mention of that needs to be worked into the article.) Vilĉjo 09:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
