Ringil is the name of a fictional sword from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. Its name means "chill star" or "cold star" in Sindarin.
It was the sword of Fingolfin, and it glittered like ice. Fingolfin wounded Morgoth with this sword seven times in single combat after the Dagor Bragollach.
Before his death Fingolfin used it to stab the foot of the Dark Lord, forever maiming his walk.
The body of Fingolfin was then taken with his sword to a grave high in the mountains by Thorondor, where it was buried with him. After all of western Middle-earth sunk the sword was forever lost.
