    Contents

[edit] Doubt as to appropriate material

Email list administrators are complaining of consistent spamming by individuals linking to this biography or to the website promoting this person's profit-seeking ventures. (e.g. ABA Solosez email list for lawyers) Fmischler 00:56, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Fmischler 20 Feb 2007

    [edit] Please expand this article!

As it stands now, this article only runs a little over 2,000 words. That is shockingly sparse for a subject as significant as Riley Martin, you understand. Look, man... and you see what I'm saying man, yeah. Eleemosynary 05:15, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Seeing as how there's a standoff in negotiations, this may be the end. This article may not be getting any bigger. --Bark 13:26, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Visionary

Uh, look man, Riley is a genius, you understand? And things of this nature. Uhhhhhhh. MGlosenger 00:07, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

U see here, man, that the answers lie in the cosmos, man. Nevertheless, I wish you good day

    [edit] Web Site

His website is pretty goofy. Check it out. 24.166.190.48 19:55, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Uh, by "goofy" you mean "brilliant", you understand? His marker drawings of aliens are from witnessing them in the physical. Nevertheless... uhhhhhhh... Foday 05:16, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Prank Calls

What would happen if someone called into his show, claimed to have the same experience with Tan (but more recent), and then tried to sell their own symbols? Would Riley have a **** fit? Bark 17:52, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] 7th Alien Race

We need more information on the 7th alien race. It looks like a brain in a jar from the pictures on Riley's site. Keep you eyes and ears open. Bark 13:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

All I know is anything Riley can't pin down is some serious shit man... uhhhhhhhhhhh... Foday 07:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The quotes section was cut and I restored it

I find the quotes section relevant, though perhaps it could be trimmed. Please discuss it here. Foday 02:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. I listen to Riley Martin regularly. The quotes are indeed relevent. They may even be the very heart of the article, IMHO. --Bark 14:22, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Stevie Wonder

Didn't Riley mention that one of the alien races likes the Stevie Wonder album, "Songs in the Key of Life"? He also said in one of his shows that he and the aliens were dancing one time to Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley. Which episode was that?

    [edit] Personal Opponion

I personally think that this guy buy far puts the ASS in jackass. I also think that listening to him is a waste on anyones time . Infact the only time that i do klike to hear about him is when howard is dissing him on the air. In addition i think that he only thinks that he was so called "abducted" because of all of the time that he spent doing whatever he did with the narcotics back whenever he used them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rjp4505 (talk • contribs) 20:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

    [edit] This is notable?

Considering some of the AfD "fights? I have already been in, I cannot see how this idiocy remains on Wikipedia. It is highly self-referential. It is also link-spam'd out the wazoo. At the very least, I think that alot of the commercial links involved in this article need to be removed. --Bill W. Smith, Jr. (talk/contribs) 07:23, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

If pages about Pokemon characters are notable, then this is notable. MGlosenger 02:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
You certainly have the very essence of a problem there. Wikipedia has become the home for complete insanity regards so many fad topics. From Pokemon to Lost (TV series), why does Wikipedia not allow only a single-page reference to what it is and a summary of its significance, rather than these in-depth projects? Surely there are websites that Wikipedia could point to that have all the detail? I am beginning to realize that Wikipedia's authority and reputation are being done more harm that good by these cultural fad sub-projects. Bringing it back to Riley Martin... where are the scholarly references that would normally be required to prove notability? Why is something notable simply because some moron can get air time? --Bill W. Smith, Jr. (talk/contribs) 12:23, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Notability has always seemed arbitrary to me. I personally can only go by whether the concept or thing is popularly known or not. Many people know about trigonometry, Riley Martin, and Pokemon, but relatively few know about my next door neighbor when I was a kid, Mrs. Bertolli. I'm not sure how else you can judge notability, really. The problem for me is in deciding what amount of people is the magic amount, and then proving it's the true amount, but if life were easy, it'd be boring. And at any rate Wikipedia gives people something to debate.
Personally I think Pokemon is a dumb show for little kids, but hey, I'm not everyone... MGlosenger 00:58, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

    [edit] Quotes

Most of what is in the ...Quotes sections are nothing more than a few words that could have been randomly pulled out of a hat! Wikipedia is not a list! I suggest 90% of these lists be removed. Only whole quotes should be kept, and those need citations! --Bill W. Smith, Jr. (talk/contribs) 12:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Even though a lot of Riley's quotes are memorable to Stern show people, it is difficult to convey his pronunciation on many of them and it is lost on people who haven't heard him. We should consider trimming at least some of the less notable comments. It would be great if we could get a commons audio of the some sounds he makes to help ourselves out, but I don't think that will happen.(Optigan13 09:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC))
I believe Wikiquote was specifically created for quotes, and so they should all be moved there and a link to Wikiquote added to the Wikipedia article. Even then I doubt any of the quotes can be verified by an outside source, but.. they will be someday, surely! MGlosenger 10:02, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
I copied all the quotes over to a Wikiquote article and added a link to Wikiquote to this article. I moved the pictures but maybe they'd be better further up, whatever works MGlosenger 10:14, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
After you set it up they tagged it for cleanup to try and match their templates more. I'll try to get around to it, but maybe somebody else would do it. Optigan13 18:15, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV, advertisements & e-mail list spamming

In order to avoid the complaints of e-mail list spamming that Riley, or someone who sends in links to listservs is doing, I think the only thing we need to do is reword the article to make sure it is WP:NPOV:neutral. For me the main thing that this involves is to re-word it to read a little more neutral, and to change the external links citations to in-line citations with footnotes. It looks like MGlosenger is already doing some re-wording in addition to all the other work he has done on this article. Thanks for that. Once we have cleaned it up to where we feel it is neutral we can have one of the projects go through and take a look at it for improvements. (Optigan13 07:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC))

Sorry it took so long, but I changed all the external site linkage into footnotes, and updated the urls. This should make it read like less of a adverisement, but it still needs trimming and NPOV wording checks. Optigan13 06:14, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
