Ridge Racer 7 is the latest installment in the Ridge Racer series, the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 3, and was one of the launch titles for the system in Japan, North America and Europe. The game has around 40 cars, with each car having around 200,000 different variations. Many of these cars return from Ridge Racer 6 and the PSP Ridge Racer, although there are several new designs as well. There are also 22 courses, available in forward and reverse. It has been announced by Namco that some of the game content can be installed directly onto the PS3's standard hard drive in order to shorten loading times. The installed content will take up approximately 5 GB of storage space.
Ridge Racer 7 boasts 1080p resolution graphics running at 60 frames per second. It also features 5.1 surround sound and free online gameplay.
A trailer was shown at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show.
On February 22, 2007 a free downloadable demo was realeased to the PlayStation Network Store.

Ridge Racer 7 is divided into several gameplay modes.

- Ridge State Grand Prix - the basic Grand Prix mode.
- Manufacturer's Trials - special races where the player can earn parts to customize their car.
- UFRA Single Event- special races with restrictions.
- Extreme Battle - extra races with a much higher difficulty.
- Online Modes
- Global Time Attack - a time trial mode where players can race their cars and post their best lap times on a global leaderboard.

As players progress, they will gain the ability to modify and upgrade both the appearance and performance of their cars. The Nitrous function from the previous Ridge Racers returns and is also upgradeable in most cars.

On 22 March 2007, Namco released downloadable extras and content for Ridge Racer 7 through the PlayStation Network. This content includes extra events and special decals for customizing. Players also have the option to purchase extra background music for their game.
