At a location just south of the northern boundary of the Angeles National Forest, the traveler
encounters a vintage Ridge Route guardrail. Maintenance for the Ridge Route ended in 1933 when the first Ridge Route Alternate (a three laned highway) opened west of the original Ridge Route. This guardrail would have to be at least 71 years old or more at the time of the taking of this photograph in 2004. A painted guardrail found at the Ridge Route's southern end (please see first photo on this page) was the only other guardrail found on tour by this photographer. The Ridge Route in its prime had more guardrails than what's currently left. Photo from private collection of avnative.
