[edit] Uploading images

Please do not save over images that already exist. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:07, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Especially when your image is different from the one that already exists. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:08, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
  • To clarify: you should only overwrite an existing image if your new image is a redundant (all pixels the same or scaled-down) copy, in the same image file format, and the same or lower resolution, of the older existing image. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:20, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:LG1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:LG1.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --cohesiontalk 22:16, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:HighFiveTrini.jpg

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:HighFiveTrini.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. CLW 15:34, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking

Please don't blank your talk page - other editors need to be able to tell whether or not you've already been notified about problems with images you've uploaded. Instead, you can archive your talk page (see my talk page for an example) if you feel it's getting too large. Regards, CLW 10:26, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images

I've added unsourced/unlicenced tags to a large number of images which you've created. You may wish to check back through your "my contributions" list and tag these correctly if you don't want them to be deleted. In future, please ensure that you add source details and licencing tags to images when you upload them. If you don't know how to do this, let me know and I'll do what I can to help. Thanks! Thanks for uploading Image:Griffinthuderzord.jpg.

[edit] List of episodes of Power Rangers

I'm glad to see that the images you have uploaded have now been sourced and have the licencing details. However, if you wish to reinsert them into the List of episodes of Power Rangers article, you need to do this properly. Reverting back to the earlier version has reinserted text which is a copyright violation. Please reinsert the images rather than reverting to whole page back to a version which violates copyright. Thanks. CLW 21:07, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Please allow me to lay out the situation here. You uploaded huge numbers of images without adding source and/or licencing details. Just take a look at all the messages above. You blanked your talk page at one stage to get rid of these. I left you a note above explaining that if you weren't sure how to add these details, I'd help you. You were notified that these images would be deleted if the relevant details weren't added. You had a full week in which to do this. You failed to do so. The images were therefore deleted.
Once these were deleted, I tidied the page up. I also got rid of a lot of stuff which was a copyright violation. By reverting back to the old version, you're re-adding stuff which is copyright violation. You mustn't do this. If you want to add the images back in, you must do this properly. If you'd tagged the images correctly when the problems were brought to your attention and when I offered to help point you in the right direction, there would be no need to do this. However, since you didn't take the time to tag/source the images, they have been removed from the article, along with text which is copyrighted, and if you want to replace the images you must re-add them properly instead of just reverting. CLW 22:33, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

STOP INSERTING COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS INTO THE List of episodes of Power Rangers ARTICLE. If you continue to do so, you are liable to get blocked from editing. If you wish to reinsert images which you have now correctly tagged and sourced, please do so, but not just by clicking on revert. Do the job properly - I've had to put in time and effort to clear up the mess created by your refusal to tag images correctly until they are deleted. Do not continue to vandalise the article by inserting copyright violations, by reinserting the "Landmark Episodes" section (which is entirely POV) and by reinserting the "Air dates" section which only duplicates information contained in the tables.

Please also note that under the terms of fair use, you can add a limited number of images to illustrate critical commentary of the programme in question. So make sure that you do indeed use a limited number of images.

Also, please note that many of the images you have uploaded still have no source details. If you don't want these to be deleted, please provide the source.

If you disagree with anything I've written above, please justify yourself here, or on my talk page, or on the article's talk page. I've tried and tried and tried to communicate with you - you only reply in edit summaries which is inappapropriate. When I've made important comments in edit summaries, I've backed these up here.

Thanks, CLW 08:21, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:MMARlogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MMARlogo.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. -- Carnildo 09:41, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Block

Further to the above warning, you have again reinserted copyright violations into List of episodes of Power Rangers. You have therefore been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours. CLW 19:11, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright

In regard to the article List of episodes of Power Rangers, please stop adding text copied from http://www.rovang.org/wg/eps.htm . Doing so is copyright infringement and is against Wikipedia policy (see Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ#Can I add something to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else?). We welcome any original contributions from you. However, reinserting copyrighted material will result in your being blocked per Wikipedia:Blocking policy#Copyright infringement and plagiarism, as has already happened once. Thanks. Evil saltine 06:07, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

This is your last warning. If you continue to add copyrighted text, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that it is against Wikipedia policy to have text from an outside source not licensable under the GFDL, even if you only plan to keep the text there for a short time. Evil saltine 06:24, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
You have been temporarily blocked from editing for addition of copyrighted text to Wikipedia per blocking policy. If you wish to make original contributions, you may come back after the block expires. Evil saltine 06:48, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking over

My 48 hours worth of blocking is over and yet I am still blocked. Mainly because CWL has the stupid idea that me and my friend zeo6 are the same person. With that said, my IP address (which zeo6 used) is being blocked from my computer and I can no longer do my editing. I want the IP address unblocked! The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rick lay95 (talk • contribs) .

It is my personal opinion that User:Zeo6 is a sock puppet of User:Rick lay95 - please see User talk:Zeo6 for an explanation of my rationale. For this reason, I believe that although the block on User:Rick lay95 for repeated copyright violations subsequent to requests and warnings has now expired, the block should remain in force for attempting to evade the block through the use of a sock puppet. If any other adminstrators disagree, they should unblock User:Zeo6. CLW 15:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Rick - you can add the template {{unblock}} to your page without removing any of my comments above, or any comments from User talk:Zeo6. This will alert other administrators to the situation so that they can make a call on unblocking your IP. CLW 15:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Once again my friend zeo6 is being accused of being me. The only reason I am still being blocked is because my friend is still susupected of being me. Which is not ture. What more do I have to say or do? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rick lay95 (talk • contribs) .

I have removed the autoblock on your IP. You should be able to edit now. This is because CLW stated on User talk:Zeo6 that Rick lay95 should be allowed to edit once the block on this account expires. Evil saltine 07:27, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uploading images

Rick. I notice that since your block has been lifted you've uploaded another ten or so images without providing details of the source. Is "Nak's Rangers" supposed to be the source? What is this - a website? A magazine? A TV show? I've looked it up on Google and get zero hits. At least you have provided licensing details for these, but you MUST provide source details and licensing details when you upload images. I've said it many times above, and I'll say it again: If there's something about the sourcing and licensing process that you don't understand, please ask and I'll try to help. You really can't go on doing this. CLW 19:19, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Please do not vandalise pages by blanking redirects and changing them into empty articles.

Since your most recent block expired, you have persisted in uploading unsourced images and you have now blanked the contents of a redirect page. Please therefore be warned that if you continue to violate policy, you will be blocked for a much longer period. CLW 13:18, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles

Please don't make articles in the main namespace that redirect to your user page. Thanks Tawker 01:43, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Well I am that person, and it only makes sense to redirect it then to just make another page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rick lay95 (talkcontribs).

Unless you're notable which I don't think you are (no offense, I don't warrant a main namespace page either), it doesn't belong in the main userspace. Tawker 01:45, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

This is your last warning. Removing an AfD tag, as you did from the now-deleted page Rickey Layman is vandalism. If you continue to violate policy, you will be blocked once again. CLW 09:09, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

You know, I don't understand you people. What is the big deal? I just want to link my page from the Louisville Bulls page to my user page. I am a real person, I am a player on the team, and there are plenty of people with pages out there. I just thought it would be easier if I just link it to my user page and not create another page.

Eh??? If there's a tag which clearly says please do not blank this article or remove this notice while the discussion is in progress you think it's a good idea to just delete the tag? Could you confirm that you really and truly believe this is acceptable? CLW 15:12, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Actually in that paticular sitiuation I wasn't sure what it was, I was just workign on it 2 seconds ago and it came out of nowhere. But thats not the issue at hand. The issue is that for some reason I can't link my real name to my user name from the Roster on the bulls page.

Correct. Absolutely right and correct. You can't link your name from a mainspace article through to your user page. There are rules and guidelines to follow here. May I recommend that you take the time to go to Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines and have a good read through - it seems to me that a lot of the problems and issues you're experiencing would be resolved if you took some time to understand how to go about editing here. If there's anything you don't understand, please ask. CLW 15:19, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please stop!!

Rick! Please would you stop for a moment and read the updates at Talk:List of episodes of Power Rangers - why are you inserting yet more red links and yet more fair use images? Please don't! Also, this is an encyclopedia article - please don't insert things like "insert plot". If there are no plot notes yet, leave that bit blank. CLW 15:05, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation_episodes

Thats what I want the Power Ranger page to look like. I want it to have that beautiful quality to it and clearity of information. So sue me if I strive for something good. It just seems that every effort I take to make the page like that, ends up being screwed over. Why can't the page look like the Next Gen page?

The Next Generation page also uses far too many fair use images - just because there's a problem at that page, doesn't mean it's fine to replicate it elsewhere. Also, the Next Generation page has far fewer red links. CLW 15:14, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

The Next Gen page has fewer red links because people were actually writing about the epiodes. I don't understand why PR fans can't do the same. Does no one have a passion for Power Rangers like I do? And yes I am going to write some. I already did Forever Red. But I want to wait and finish the list until I start writing. I was hopeing that other people would be inspired by my work to do the same.

Please read my comments on the article talk page. Write the articles, then do the links. Not the other way round. That's the guideline which has been agreed on by community consensus. CLW 15:20, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:WildForce.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:WildForce.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. CLW 13:25, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:PRDFgroup.jpg and Image:PRTgroup.jpg

Rick - you've tagged both these images as public domain, but I can't find anything at the source to confirm that this is the case. Please could you confirm why these images are public domain? Thanks, CLW 13:43, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Rick - I see that you've edited since I left the above message, but you haven't responded to the query. Please could you confirm what makes these images public domain? I'm assuming good faith here, and that you know something I don't, or that you've just made a mistake. Thanks, CLW 14:42, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

To be honest, I wasn't sure what they were. I found them from the provided links and I could't find anything that matched and that happened to be the closest I could find.

Rickey. Will you please start to take copyright issues seriously? Just take a look through the number of messages on this page which relate to your stubborn refusal to pay any heed to copyright. How on earth can asserting that images are in the public domain because you're not sure of their copyright status be construed as giving them the closest tag you can find? If you don't understand what public domain (read the link!) is, don't make assertions that stuff's in the public domain. Please try to understand what I'm saying here: you are treading on very thin ice. You've now been blocked twice for copyright infringement. Your talk page has countless notifications that you've been uploading images without tagging and sourcing them, despite my offers to help you do this. Although you claim that User:Zeo6 isn't a sock puppet of yours, he has only edited while you've been blocked and has only replicated your edits, used the same spelling mistakes as you and done so using your computer (and therefore the same IP as you). You've been given a final warning that you're liable to be blocked yet again, and still you tag images as being in the public domain just because you don't know their copyright status. At the risk of repeating myself: please, if you're in doubt about these things, ask someone for help. Ask me. Ask any experienced editor or any administrator. I'm not going to block you again at this point in time, because I feel that I'm now too personally involved here and that blocking you would be an abuse of my adminship. You obviously have knowledge to contribute, so please please please do continue to do so. But you've got to follow policy, heed guidelines and pay attention to copyright issues. If you're not sure what I'm banging on about, please either ask me or ask someone else. I hope you don't find this patronising - please understand that it is important stuff. CLW 15:22, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:PRTgroup.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:PRTgroup.jpg.

Thank you. CLW 15:27, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Whoah - hang on there!

Rick - why are you creating a bunch of article which only duplicate the information which already exists at List of episodes of Power Rangers? You've already said at the talk page that you don't think the article should be split out into smaller articles, so what's going on? Duplicating information is a bad thing - one editor will edit the info at the main article, another editor will edit the info at the sub-article, and we end up with one big mess. I think the best thing to do would be to turn the articles you've created into redirects back to List of episodes of Power Rangers - what's your opinion? CLW 17:17, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

You wanted the paged split, so thats what I done.

Uh, I didn't want the page split. Another editor proposed this, and the only person to make a comment was you. You said you didn't think there should be a split. CLW 18:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

I've blocked you for a month. Once the block expires, feel free to continue contributing, but tread carefully when uploading images. -Greg Asche (talk) 18:44, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

What the? What did I do this time?

Everyone thought that the List of Power Rangers episodes was too long and need to be split. And thats what I did! Why Am I being blocked for that?!?! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rick lay95 (talkcontribs).

You were given a final warning. I left you a comment today that you needed to start following policy and playing by the rules. You were warned that you were treading on thin ice. You then added a speedy delete tag to an article for no apparent reason. Go figure. CLW 19:13, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

I thought my reason was clear why I put the speedy deletion. And not to mention I didn't even get the oppertunity to post a reason before all of this happened.

[edit] One month

Well I suppose I can handel one month. Especially with my girlfriend. However, I must say this leaves me powerless to resolve certin things. Such as the speedy deletion of one of my pages I have been working on. Since I can't say anything about it, no doubt that in a month's time it will be gone.

Hi. Please do not upload that image again without consensus, or you will be blocked from editing. Thanks in advance. Regards, El_C 04:32, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

What the heck is wrong with the photo? I gave the link where it is from, and said that it was pulbic domain since their was no copyright information? Why the heck can't I upload a simple stadium photo? And whos consensus do I need?

Hi again. I believe that the person posing the objection (Carnildo) maintains that its public domain status has not been propperly established (I read his "bullshit" edit summary to mean that, at least). Please work toward persuading him of the license's authenticity. Thanks again. Regards, El_C 04:44, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
It was tagged as {{PD-self}}. There are two problems with that tag: there's no evidence that the image is in the public domain, and there is no evidence that the image was created by the uploader. --Carnildo 06:17, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

This is the site I found it on: http://www.angelfire.com/ky3/kyhslogos/index1.html

And this is the page it is on: http://www.angelfire.com/ky3/kyhslogos/stadiumgallery.html

And this is the pic itself: http://www.angelfire.com/ky3/kyhslogos/stadiums/manual-stadium.jpg

Now you tell me what I need to do post and I will post it.

Well, if you know that a US govt. employee, for example, took the photograph, than it can be claimed as public domain. Perhaps it can still be claimed as fair use. Maybe you should ask at WP:FU. I also wish it was simpler, but it just isn't in some cases. Good luck. El_C 04:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cindy Song image

I've responded to your question on Talk:Cindy Song. However, it appears that the image you added to the page isn't suitable for use on Wikipedia. Most images found on the internet are not public domain or copyleft, which are the two types of images that can be safely uploaded here. In some cases, fair use images like company logos or book covers can be uploaded and used in specific instances, but in general, any image not created before 1923, created by the US Government, or released by the creator with a copyleft license, can not be uploaded here. I'm pretty sure that the Cindy Song image you added doesn't meet any of these criteria, and as such, it will be deleted in several days. The purpose of Wikipedia is to create an encyclopedia that can be reproduced freely, and non-free images hinder that goal. --Spangineeres (háblame) 14:55, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] White Ranger

Unless you upload a Whiteranger2.jpg, do not change how the image links across Wikipedia.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 07:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I did upload Whiteranger2.jpg

It was deleted.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 08:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Additionally, we do not need another image of the White Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We already have one that we know where it came from.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 08:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Whiteranger2.jpg listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Whiteranger2.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it, but use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Slowking Man 08:10, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking your talk page

Please don't blank your talk page, as this conceals warnings that you have been given in the past. Other editors need to be able to review these warnings so that any inappropriate editing can be viewed in the light of any previous warnings. If you feel your user page is getting too large, you should archive the older items (see my talk page for an example of how to do this) so that other editors can look through your talk page history if necessary. Thanks, CLW 11:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
