Talk:Richard Montgomery High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looking over the Julius West page it seems small (to be sure) and also onesided as if a teacher or over enthusiastic staff wrote it. Any one in here feel like helping me out. Im a wiki n00b here so it seems like i could use some help. Im not much of a fact whore so i dont remember much. 69.104.76.195 10:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

To the best of my knowledge (as an alum of the IB program, all four years), there is no fighting for 25 spots. Certainly when I was there (1996-2000) as many people got the diploma as were academically able, out of the original 100 or so who were admitted as freshmen. Also, the footnote that follows this statement in the article does not actually support this claim. I am therefore deleting it. Dgrobinson 00:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

From what I know, anyone in the MYP program(me) is eligible to apply for the IB program(me) at the end of their sophomore year. Of the people who apply, 25 of them are allowed into IB and the rest go into normal classes. I really don't know how they decide which 25, but it probably involves grades and such. How are the 25 people selected ? It also includes the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), in which freshmen and sophomores take rigorous classes, then fight for 25 spots in the IB program at the end of their sophomore year.

How are these 25 people selected again ? Maybe we should include that in the article--138.88.178.235 21:32, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Fictional and POV information is repeatedly being replaced here after I have removed it. The following is what I am refering to.

Richard Montgomery High School is also noted as the birthplace of the Richard Montgomery Liberation Front, or RMLF. The organization finds its roots in the WGLF movement which began the college debate community. The RMLF began as a political movement led by Vishal Ganesan and Leonard Chang in reponse to the yearly student government elections. After suffering a tragic electoral defeat, the liberation front began to gain a foothold in the IB student body and even gained the sponsorship of renowned English teacher and "It's Academic" team leader Mr. McKenna.
An especially important part of the Richard Montgomery lifestyle is to be a part of the Cross Country Team. All of the elite students are on the team, making it one of the prettiest teams in Maryland. They are the 2004 division champions, and will hold that title for many years to come.

Why is this encyclopedic? Please explain before reverting this again. --BaronLarf 02:14, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)

Man, the opportunities for spreading stupid in-jokes are certainly much wider now than they were back when I was at RM... john k 04:54, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Er, anybody else notice that the Tori Amos external reference incorrectly cites RM as being in Georgetown? Supposedly it's something she wrote. -VJ 21:11, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I noticed that. Very odd. Surely she must know it's not in Georgetown. john k 02:38, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

How the 25 people are selected: They have to be 10th grade Honors or MYP students, and have to be from Richard Montgomery's home district. They are able to get into the IB program in 11th grade by taking a test and getting favorable teacher reccomendations.--72.75.113.204 21:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suburban

I don't understand the claim that RM is in an "urban area." It is in an incorporated city, admittedly, but that doesn't make it urban. Rockville (and all of Montgomery County, for that matter) is pretty clearly a suburb of DC. On what basis is it being claimed to be urban? john k 02:38, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Extracurricular Activities

I included some needed detail concerning the choral program. I also moved the mentions of performing arts together into one section. The instrumental program still needs a contribution though. JICanizares 05:34, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
