Rick Wrona

Rick Wrona (born December 10, 1963) is a former Major League Baseball catcher. He played college ball at Wichita State University. Wrona never managed to hold a starting job in the major leagues, playing no more than than 38 games or managing more than 92 at-bats in any one season. During his career, Wrona played for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers.
Wrona made his major league debut on September 3, 1988 as a pinch-hitter versus the Reds. The next year, he maintained a role as a backup catcher for the division-winning Cubs behind both Joe Girardi and Damon Berryhill on the depth chart. Nevertheless, the Cubs carried three catchers for the National League Championship Series against the San Francisco Giants. The Giants won the series 4 games to 1. Wrona enjoyed no success in the series, going 0-for-5 with 3 strikeouts while appearing in 2 games.
After 1989, Wrona couldn't seem to stick on a major league roster, never logging more than 16 games in any further season at the game's top level. He played his final major league game as a member of the Brewers on July 22, 1994.
As of March 2007, Wrona holds the interesting distinction of being the only major league player whose surname began with "Wro."
