Rick McCarty spent several years as a professional fisherman on the Bassmaster circuit.

In seven tournaments, his career winnings were US$6,800. He had one top-20 finish and three top-50 finishes. In 1993 he took part in the Bassmaster Classic on Logan Martin Lake in Birmingham, Alabama. He finished 30th with 16.5 pounds. His winnings for the 1993 Classic totalled $3,000.

McCarty is originally from Bourbounais, Illinois. For many years, he hosted "The Fishing and Outdoor Show" on WCSJ Radio in Morris, Illinois.
