[[History]]:.Galle breaks up to a shower of golden rays each dawn, blessings of the sun god,Ensuring the winds the rains and the harvest from the soil and hope for the people.130 years ago Galle had a another blessing of a another sun. A blessing That brought the spirit of love, kindness, human values, knowledge and the empowerment of those who were touched by it. In May 1876 was the birth of Galle high school showering Galle with the rays of knowledge each passing days. In 1882 it renamed Richmond College with consents of western Methodist mission in England and the hill, which it stands, became Richmond hill. The founder of the college was Rev. George Bough. The foreign missionaries work hard to enrich the curriculum of the school. Among them Rev. Darrel, a immortal person to the Richmond history. He was taken by a disease affected him when he was nursing the children. Rev. Small consider as the father of mathematics in Sri Lanka. All these were came to a foreign land and labored to uplift the knowledge and attitudes of their pupils and breath their last from the mother country. The first Sri Lankan principal of the college was Mr. E. R. De Silva a student of Rev Small. Mr. D.G. Welikala was the first Buddhist principal of Richmond. Mr. W.N.R.P. Daniyas is the present principal of the college. The present principal is Mr. W.N.R.P. Daniyas who works unceasingly to improve the knowledge, behavior, talents and attitude of the children science 1994. President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse is one of the distinguish old boys of Richmond college.

[[Education]]:.As a leading school in Sri Lanka Richmond students have obtained outstanding public examination results by the provision of additional tutorials and special instructions at educational conferences and revision classes from 2.00-3.00pm as examination drew close.

                  Accordingly 77 have passed the grade 5 scholarship examination and one student came 4th in the island by gaining maximum 179 marks in 2001.

[[Facilities]]:.Richmond college can be considered as the most prominent school in Galle district. There are 4 A/L science labs, well resourced library, western an eastern music rooms, 2 well equipped computer labs and a proposed swimming pool in the college.

                    There are more than 60 societies and unites are operating in Richmond college. All of them are in a good condition with a large gathering of children.
