Richard Watkins

Richard Watkins has developed an important career as soloist in different European stages. He has performed with very relevant conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Leornard Slatkin, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Andrew Davis y Guennadi Rojdestvenski, among others. Also he has played in camera groups with pianists as Barry Douglas, Peter Donohoe, Pascal Rogé and Julius Drake. He is a member of the Nash Ensemble.
From 1985 to 1996, he was the first horn of the Philharmonia. He has presented for the first time numerous contemporary works, some of them written for him by David Matthews, Peter Maxwell-Davies and Nigel Osborne, among others[citation needed].
Watkins is considered one of the most outstanding horn performers of his generation[citation needed]: He has recorded a lot of works, such as the 'Concert for two horns' by Arnold, the 'Concert for horn' by Glière, the 'Sinfonia concertante' by Mozart and the 'Concert for violin and horn' by Smyth.
Also he has devoted himself to the Pedagogy and he gives master lessons in prestigious centers of Europe and America. At present he is a guest teacher in the Royal College of Music and he is holder of the Dennis Brein Chair in the Royal Academy of Music.
