Richard Paez

Richard Paez was confirmed by the Senate to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in March 2000. As one of President Bill Clinton's many judicial appointments, Judge Paez is best known for being the first Mexican American to sit on the bench of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, a district that covers Los Angeles [1].
Paez hails from Utah and the Mormon faith. He is said to be extremely liberal [2]. But not everyone is quick to label him. He has been called a "decent, just plain nice guy" [3].
He was born on 5 May 1947 in Salt Lake City. He is married, with a son and daughter.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in 1969. He attended the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley and graduated in 1972 [4].
