Richard Newport, 2nd Earl of Bradford

Richard Newport, 2nd Earl of Bradford, PC, (3 September 164414 June 1723) was an English peer and Whig politician.

The son of the 1st Earl of Bradford and Lady Diana Russell was educated in Christ Church, Oxford in 1661 and 1662, and graduated with a Master of Arts. He succeeded his father's titles on 19 September 1708

Newport was Member of Parliament (MP) for Shropshire from 1670 to 1685, and from 1689 to 1698. Between 1704 and 1712 and between 1714 and 1723, he was Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, as well as Custos Rotulorum of Shropshire from 1708 to 1712. He was also Custos Rotulorum of Montgomeryshire from 1701 to 1711 and from 1714 to 1723. On 18 February 1709 or 1710, he was appointed to the Privy Council. Newton died aged 78 in Soho Square, London.
