Richard Morant

Richard Morant (born October 30, 1945 in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, United Kingdom) is an English actor.
Morant is a nephew of the actor Bill Travers and the actress Linden Travers and a cousin of the actress Penelope Wilton and Lindy Wilton, he has enjoyed a long television and theatre career. He created an impression as the bully 'Flashman' in a BBC1 adaptation of the Thomas Hughes novel Tom Brown's Schooldays (1972) and followed this up with a regular role as 'Dr Dwight Enys' in the popular BBC series of Poldark (1975). He also appeared in several BBC classic serials, including adaptations of Walter Scott's Woodstock (1973), as the future Charles II, and The Talisman (1980), as 'Conrade of Montserrat' (sic). Later he played Bunter to Edward Petherbridge's Lord Peter Wimsey. His stage appearances have included a starring role in Noel Coward's Private Lives at the Oxford Playhouse in 1984.
His first wife was the actress Melissa Fairbanks, a daughter of the actor Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
In addition to his acting work, Richard has recently acquired other interests. In 2005 he became the sole owner of an established company specialising in carpets and fine textiles. Their headquarters is in Notting Hill, London.
