Richard Johnston (judge)

The Honourable Mr. Justice Richard Johnston (born October 1937) has been the President of the Irish High Court since November 2006. He is the second most senior Irish judge after the Chief Justice John L. Murray.
He was born in Tralee, Kerry and went to UCD where he studied law. He qualified as a barrister at the King's Inns in 1960 and was appointed to the High Court in 1987. His father was a district court judge for a number of years and his son and daughter are barristers. As of 2007, he is paid €244,199 per year.
