Richard Leonard Johnson (born December 29, 1974 in Chertsey, Surrey) is an English cricketer, who played county cricket first for Middlesex County Cricket Club and then for Somerset County Cricket Club. He is a lower order batsman and bowls right-arm medium pace.
[edit] England
Richard Johnson had a whirlwind start to an impressive looking career in Test cricket, when he made his debut England against Zimbabwe at Chester-le-Street on June 5, 2003. He scored 24 on debut, and took 6/33 and 0/67.
However he was injury prone and when fit found that other bowlers had overtaken him in the pecking order and he failed to sustain an international career.
In November 2006, Johnson re-signed with Middlesex. According to a source within Middlesex County Cricket Club, he left Somerset because of an alleged affair with Marcus Trescothick's wife. This was thought to be the cause of Trescothick's stress related illness which forced him out of the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2006/2007 Ashes series.
