Richard Haag

Richard Haag (born October 23, 1923) is a United States landscape architect noted for his work on Gas Works Park in Seattle, Washington and the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Richard Haag was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and received his education from the University of Illinois, University of California, Berkeley (B.L.A.), and went to Harvard Graduate School of Design (M.L.A.).
Richard Haag is known as one of the most influential Landscape architect in America. He founded the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Washington in 1963. Haag was awarded a Fulbright in Japan for two years and was Resident at the American Academy in Rome.
While at Harvard, Hagg was honored, by the Harvard Graduate School of Design, with a symposium and exhibition entitled Exploring the Landscape Architecture of Richard Haag (Spring 1996). Followed by that was the publication of the book: Richard Haag: Bloedel Reserve and Gas Works Park. This book not only explains the design process involved in creating these two famous sites, but also the effect these sites have had on other landscape architects.
Richard Haag is proud to be the only person to twice receive the American Society of Landscape Architects Presidents Award for Design Excellence: Gas Works Park, Seattle, WA and The Sequence of Gardens at Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge Island, WA. Haag continues to teach lectures internationally while practicing as Principal of Richard Haag & Associates in Seattle, Washington.
