Richard Eaton Singers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Richard Eatons Singers is a symphonic chorus which has been a part of the cultural life of Edmonton, Alberta since 1951. It was founded by Richard Eaton, the first Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Alberta, and was originally named the University Singers. 150 voices strong, RES frequently performs with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and is at home in the Winspear Centre for Music. The choir has an extensive repertoire of standard choral works and frequently commissions and premieres new works by Canadian composers. RES has toured Canada and Europe.

RES is currently conducted by Leonard Ratzlaff, who celebrates 25 years with RES in 2006. Richard Eaton conducted the Chorus until 1967, and was succeeded by Alexandra Munn (1967 - 1973) and Larry Cook (1973 - 1981), both U of A faculty members.
