Rich Field

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rich Field is a defunct Army base near Waco, Texas, used for air operations during World War I.

Rich Field was built southwest of Waco near what is now the intersection of the Bosque Blvd and 41st street. Although the field was abandoned shortly after the war, World War I era buildings remained standing until the 1960s.

The site was used for two major civic facilities and numerous businesses. The Heart O' Texas Fairgrounds and Coliseum occupy part of the former base. A high school was constructed on part of the site in the late 1950s. The high school was named Richfield High School in honor of the former base. Later that high school was consolidated into Waco High School.
