Riccardo Brengola

Riccardo Brengola (born Napoli, 18 marzo 1917 - died Rome, 16 maggio 2004) was an important Italian violinist.

Enfant prodige, got his violin diploma in Casablanca at his early age of 11. Studied in Bologna with Arrigo Serato and orchestra conducting with Paul van Kempen. Won the Ginevra Violin Competition in 1936 and was finalist at the first edition of the International Competition "Eugène Yasye", Bruxelles, together with David Oistrakh. Between 1939 and 1966 was the leader violinist of the Quintetto Chigiano, as it happened later with the Sestetto Chigiano.

He performed extensively around the world with these groups and has been an emeritus professor at the Accademia Chigiana for 64 years.

Was a close friend with famous Bolognese violin maker Ansaldo Poggi and played his violins in a number of occasions. He owned also a fine Giovan Battista Guadagnini and an excellent Roberto Regazzi.

Regarded as one of the best Italian violinists and violin teachers of the 20th Century.
