Ribeira Grande (pron. IPA: [ʁi'bɐiɾɐ 'gɾɐ̃d(ɨ)]; Portuguese for large river) is a municipality on the central part of São Miguel Island in the Azores with a population of 29,318 inhabitants. The seat of the municipality is the city of Ribeira Grande with a population of 5,300 inhabitants.
Ribeira Grande is located northeast of Ponta Delgada and is linked with a mountainous road connecting Ponta Delgada, the western part of the island and Furnas, Povoação and the eastern part of the island to the east and to the north especially areas that are away from the Atlantic Ocean.

The largest parish in population and density is Rabo de Peixe smallest parish in population is São Brás. The leastly populated parish in density and population is Lomba de São Pedro. The largest parish is Maia and the smallest is Calhetas. The highest parish is Lomba da Maia.
