Rib Mountain is a town in Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,556 at the 2000 census. Rib Mountain is part of the Wausau Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 66.3 km² (25.6 mi²). 63.7 km² (24.6 mi²) of it is land and 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it (3.91%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,556 people, 2,697 households, and 2,206 families residing in the town. The population density was 118.6/km² (307.3/mi²). There were 2,769 housing units at an average density of 43.5/km² (112.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.49% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 2.50% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,697 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.4% were married couples living together, 4.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the town the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $61,294, and the median income for a family was $66,337. Males had a median income of $45,667 versus $29,071 for females. The per capita income for the town was $27,768. About 0.4% of families and 1.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 2.5% of those age 65 or over.

For the 2000 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau designated the most densely populated 13 square miles of the town as the Rib Mountain Census Designated Place (CDP). The following statistics, which are also included in the above totals for the town, apply only to this CDP.
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 6,059 people, 2,211 households, and 1,782 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 193.0/km² (499.8/mi²). There were 2,278 housing units at an average density of 72.6/km² (187.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.06% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 2.79% Asian, 0.23% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population.
There were 2,211 households out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.0% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% were non-families. 15.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $58,866, and the median income for a family was $63,881. Males had a median income of $42,432 versus $26,947 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $28,066. About 0.5% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 2.8% of those age 65 or over.
