VASANT RAI
Greetings Riana So this controversy about Vasant Rai! Vasant Rai was indeed a very famous musician who unfortunately passed away in 1985. If you go to his website, and go to the photograph section, there are photos of him playing a duet with Ravi Shankar. This is absolutly not a publicity act, just type his name on google and see who he was. Its comprehendable that some young indians may not know him, however here in the U.S he is pretty synonomous with the Sarod. As far as the fact that many musicians considered him the best sarodist is also true, as it is true with many musicians. thanks if you have any questions please feel free to email me at kaasamir[at]yahoo.com regards Anjana Patel
While I don't doubt that Vasant Rai is certainly a well-known sarod player, I feel compelled to remind you about Wikipedia's neutral point-of-view policy. Statements like 'one of the world's best sarod players' should be avoided, as I'm sure that there would be many willing to dispute that claim. Since you seem to know a great deal about the subject, Anjana, do you think you can find some books, magazines, old newspaper articles, things that could be used to source the information in the article? Also, if some photographs could be acquired under an appropriate license to spruce up the article a little :) Thanks a lot! riana_dzasta 15:58, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
WooT! Riana's back!
Hey, welcome back Riana :) Hope you had a great time travelling, and a nice relaxing break from the weird world of the wiki :P It's great to have you back. Thε Halo Θ 11:33, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Silver-tongued?
Alack, no, Riana; my passions are made of nothing but the finest part of pure honesty. You cannot call my winds and waters sighs and tears; they are greater storms and tempests than almanacs can report. This cannot be cunning in me. If it be, I make a shower of water as well as Jove.
Hmm, I see what you mean. Y'know, the great thing about this online communication is that I get to look up my Shakespeare adaptations, rather than have to deliver them completely off-the-cuff. Enjoy the reading and look after yourself as well. Cheers, Moreschi Deletion! 16:27, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Riana
Nice to hear from you :), sure I guess. Talk to Husond, he knows all the details, Nishkid64 is also nominating me. So I would say sure...I would be honored. ~ Arjun 03:23, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- I like your new sig by the way, pretty cool :p. ~ Arjun 03:29, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

- Well, I don't think that 4 nominators could cause much more "damage" than 3 hehe. :-) Join in! :-) Regards, Húsönd 03:36, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

- And by the way, you should start thinking about your own RFA. :-) And if you plan to cut nominators to just 3, I hope I'm one of those who'll have the honor. ;-) Húsönd 03:38, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Arjun01 Conom
I would highly reccomend you co-nom Arjun01 as you had planned too. Many co-noms just shows the communities excellent trust in an editors. Actually, a very recent rfa with 7 conoms made WP:200! Arjun seems to have no issue with it as far as I can tell either. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 04:04, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry to stick my nose in here, but I came here to email Riana and just noticed this comment. I don't know anything about this nomination you're talking about, but I would very strongly caution against using Daniel's RfA to support the idea of using multiple co-noms. Daniel's RfA did so well because he has worked very hard for a long time and earned a lot of respect from a lot of people, the co-noms had nothing to do with the result and in fact, it went against him. He received an oppose and neutral !votes due to the number of co-noms and even some of the supporters commented that they felt it was a negative factor. Also, there was a discussion on the RfA talk page where a lot people said they find multiple co-noms a big turn off and will oppose people on that basis. Again, I don't know anything about the nom you're talking about but I just wouldn't like to see people thinking that Daniel's RfA is a precedent for using lots of co-noms because it does have the potential to backfire. Sarah 06:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Sarah (who, as always, stated the case much better than I ever could) :) That's the reason why I decided to drop out of the co-nom race! I'm sure Arjun won't mind :) riana_dzasta 08:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I was obviously my 3 third. Everyone could see it from the RfA. I didn't want to be redundant.--Patchouli 08:35, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's not about being redundant, it's just about being transparent. You should make it as easy as possible for people coming to give their opinion; my apologies if you feel I was trying to tell you off or something :) riana_dzasta 08:38, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Your RfA:
Hello. Haven't talked to you in a while, but thought I'd take you up on your remark that you'd need a couple of months before being renominated. Well, here it is & you can't possibly break my heart by saying no a second time... I think you've improved even more so over the passed few months, as if you weren't admin material back then. please don't fear rejection, but say; "I am ready to join the cleaners..." :) Look forward to talking to you... Spawn Man 10:22, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Aww... So I don't get to nominate her then? Riana, some, if not most, admins have periods of inactivity. That doesn't mean you shouldn't become an admin. Some admins I know (some that I even got to adminship!) don't really even take part in sysop activities at all. You should really go for this one. Also, where did my nomination go? I spent a while writing it out & then someone reverted it. Gosh, if someone else really wants to nominate her that badly, i'll just co nom then I guess....... :( Think about it anyway... Wow, what a rabble! :p If it's OK with everybody, maybe Glen, Spawn Man and Sarah can do the honours this time around? Glen 'cause he's been such great help during my admin coaching, Spawn Man because I don't want to break his heart :) and Sarah because she definitely seems to be something of a lucky charm (even though I doubt I'll get anywhere near WP:200). A lot of users I really look up to have offered to co-nom, which is very humbling, and I'm very grateful to all of you :) Can we not transclude this thing until next week, though? riana_dzasta 04:44, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Lol, it is okay with me. Go Riana! :). ~ Arjun 23:58, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

- Unfortunately that is true, which is a shame. However, Byrant must have won a few votes on his 7 or so co-noms, far more than opposes. Dfrg.msc 00:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I've just realised nobody likes me on here anyway, so what's the point of staying. Just letting you all know. I've already written a nomination in the template link up there, but I guess it doesn't really matter now... Don't know what I'm doing right now, so yeah, I don't know... Hi Riana, sorry for the delay, I was looking at some pages and I found Dermatosis as an example of something that uses the disease template, and I suppose it could describe rashes too. Dear Riana, I have the pleasure and honour of nominating you for adminship. Please visit Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Riana dzasta where you may (of course) accept or decline the nomination :) Please let me know either way as I would love to have the first !vote! :) Glen 06:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Riana, you're too late, because I have already voted for you here before you accepted. Hee hee. I know, that page is just a model for the actual version. I'm just waiting to vote on the real thing, and not just because I like you. --Kyoko 07:38, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Riana, you have two RfAs...one by Glen [1] and another by Spawn Man [2]. And Glen's overwrote a previous declined RfA,
which might not be a good thing. Not sure what you want to do about that! Also, am I still the Rabbit's foot? Is it still okay for me to add a co-nom? Sarah 07:57, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- For clarity I've added a note to the nom explaining the above. I think having it on this page is less confusing for users than have it as her fourth nom (as she has strictly speaking been nominated already three times). Hopefully this makes sense! ;) Glen 08:18, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- There was some bizarre stuff going on with your nominations, Riana, but I think Glen and I have sorted it out. I had a closer looked at Glen's nomination and I agree with how he's formatted things so I struck my earlier pondering about whether it was a good thing to over-write your original nomination. Let me know if I get the privilege of adding my co-nom. I promise won't be offended if you say no. :) Sarah 09:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks matey, I've added my co-nom. I hope you're happy with it. Now, no pressure or anything, but I expect you to be my WP:200 RfA nomination hat trick.:) Sarah 14:07, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sure you can pull it off, no worries! Sarah 14:23, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks everyone for completely discounting my first nomination which was going to be superimposed after Riana accepted. The real kicker was that Glen even used my support wording exactly "Nominator support of course!". I'm really happy for you Riana, but I'm far to angry right now to give my support. I'd rather not make any rash descisions so I'd like to stay out of this whole nomination right now. The last thing I need right now is a argument... Thanks, Spawn Man 21:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

A Bit More
That's just it, from how it seems, I don't think you did anything wrong in that situation, but rather that Freaknurture was at fault. You shouldn't apologize when you did nothing wrong. Maybe that was my bad feeling, you seem to be an incredibly nice person, but that situation makes me believe that you might be a "pushover". It's a delicate balancing act doing what's right while keeping your cool. It seems that very few admins have that, but you've got the latter, which is alot more important if you have to choose one or the other. Just H 03:18, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, sorry I've been gone for so long! I went away for a bit when my computer died, and for a little while even before then, but I've been gradually easing myself back onto the intarweb ever since; that includes ripping in to Larry Sanger, which has been an interesting experience that has thoroughly put me off any other project but Wikipedia for the moment.
I'm really happy to see that you've finally gone for an RfA, and especially that it's going so well. I just wish you'd emailed me first, so I could co-nom... :) Bah, I'll just banninate block you for it later. -- Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 03:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry that things aren't going better for you and SpawnMan. Don't get too discouraged... you're about to make administrator by a huge margin and you're surrounded by a ton of great friends. I'm sure things will turn out just fine. =) – Lantoka (talk) 06:47, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry
Sorry to have carried on on your talk page. Between this, your RfA and your personal life you must be pretty stressed by now and I'm sorry if I contributed to it in anyway. It was just too much for me to stay out of.
By the way, let me be the first to congratulate you on making WP:100—especially since I was the first to predict it. Maybe that will relieve some of the stress. Take care. —Doug Bell talk 12:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all! I'm actually pretty grateful for the back-up - just worried that you might be getting too involved, that's all :) And WP:100 is nice, too, I'm pretty surprised. riana_dzasta 12:41, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

- I probably did get too involved despite not intending to. —Doug Bell talk 20:27, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Congratulations ma'am. I just added you to the list. I now have all my noms making WP:100. Thanks for not letting me down! I'm currently on equal 10th spot and I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from pushing me out of the top 10. So please stop when you get to 161 !votes.;D Everybody I'v nominated so far has thanked me by pushing me down the list, ungrateful people! Sarah 12:56, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi!
Just dropped in to say hi! We've never communicated before. In fact, I saw your user page for the first time after visiting your RfA! Anyway, best wishes. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's the first thing (that u r bengali) that I noted in your user page. Where are you originally from in India? I mean were u born in India or Aus (please don't mind if that's too personal). I am somewhat less active in WP nowadays. Do you happen to contribute in Bengal related articles? Many Bengal related articles are making it to the DYK regularly now, thanks to excellent effort from users like P.K. Niyogi. Although the volume of Bengal related articles are still less, a number of featured articles are there related to Bengal, for example, Bangladesh, West Bengal, Bengali language, Kolkata, Dhaka, Tagore, Nazrul, Shekh Mujib, Darjeeling, Kalimpong etc. Have a look at Portal:West Bengal. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Hey, I wanted it to push for Featured status as well. Ran it through peer review. However, IMO, it needs automatic features (automatic update of selected articles, for example). Also, the selected biography part is non-democratic, I mean those were not selected via a nomination process. I just selected some relatively better (or interesting or both!) biographies. Later other users also helped to build up the pool.
- Most importantly, the portal needs more participation. Right now, Mr Niyogi is maintaining the portal almost single handedly. I sometimes help him. Otherwise, activity is low. Yet the portal gets more regularly updated than some other state portals of India. You can have a look at the Portal:Kerala, that's nice. Also portal:Hinduism became featured recently. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:42, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, either that "Show New Selections" feature, or, automatic updating after a specified period of time (say, 15 days). I personally like the Show New Selection button. Yes, we need more images. There are a few in the nomination right now. Please try to have some more. I'll also try. Hope the portal would soon be able to get featured status if an experienced user like you take interest. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:52, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Great! Waiting to see a wonderful result, and to see the portal get the featured status. --Dwaipayan (talk) 15:00, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Chance of random duplication
Ok. I get your point. So we have to remove FAs from Selected Biography pool, and also take care so that some selectd image does not appear as the representative image of a selected article/bio. Agreed. Anything more?--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

I am but a lowly editor, lacking (at present) admin tools and skills. I give on AfD only an opinion as, on this article, did you. If the editor has made a genuine mistake - although I must say it is difficult to see how this could be - then ok, let him correct it. I have no problem with this - the article as submitted, while strange, was not offensive. As the nominator, I assume that you will make a comment on the AfD page? --Anthony.bradbury 22:36, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comment; I have added one on the AfD page. In my view, the article still qualifies for deletion, on which, I think, we agree.--Anthony.bradbury 15:25, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I just went to Jimbos page to revert the blanking of Spawn Man's statement of protest and saw that you'd already done it. Thanks. I don't feel right not leaving his statement intact—he's certainly entitled to it. —Doug Bell talk 18:07, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's fine by me, I was in a very bad mood when I made that revert - unsurprisingly. Anyway, congrats on making WP:100! West Bengal Portal
Wow ... it was great to wake up to all the changes. The Portal looks fresh and modern. Thanks a lot for all that you are doing to brighten it up. I am still to get used to all the automated things. I know that for older people like me it would take a little time and effort but I will manage that part. In case I make a mistake somewhere I will get back to you for a fix up. Thanks once again and regards. -- P.K.Niyogi 01:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
A question on your RfA
Hi Riana, I put a fifth question on your RfA, and I would really like it if you would answer it. Thanks.--CJ King 01:46, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Very nice
Hi! your idea of taking up an Indian portal and elevating it is great. You and SD can do it. Please let me know if I can be of any help. Portal:Kerala is neat, you can try that. Portal:Government of India is another excellent one. Portal:Himalaya region has great potential. Thanks a ton for thw work you are putting in WB portal, even during such a busy stuff as your RfA! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:13, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I agree — however, I was wondering Wikipedians would oppose the portal to featured status for the fact that it doesn't have more 15 of each type of featured content (warning: long sentence). Comments? S.D. ¿п? § 23:57, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Big Note of Apology:
I know this is probably going to do squat for my reputation now (Not that I ever really had one), but I thought I'd leave a note of apology to everyone involved in my recent actions. An explaination is in order too. First off, I had a bad real life situation, that I really don't want to talk about, on the day this all started. I shouldn't have edited on Wikipedia afterwards, but I did. When I saw the situation with Riana's RfA, it kind of set off a build up of unvented anger at my situation & it was un needed. My whole tyraid had very little to do with the RfA, but I guess I took it out on that angle anyway. The way I was handled could have been better, but I wont go there in threat of making this sound like a back handed apology. My apologies go to Riana, who was also having a real life crisis at the time too. Basically the whole thing was a misunderstanding & venting process which I involved you all in. In regard to the whole sock puppetry thing, I had told my brother about my problems in due trust & he went & did something stupid on here. I don't really know what else to say but sorry. If that & a little bit of hard work repairing relationships on here doesn't change your current view point of me, then I don't think anything will. So again, sorry if I've inconvenienced you guys in any way & I hope that over time you'll think better of me. I'd love if you guys could forgive & hopefully forget & I wasn't really in control of myself these past few days. Hopefully things can get back to normal. :) Spawn Man 06:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
So yes above is the general sorry letter. However, I'm especially sorry to you Riana. I never should ahve taken my issues out on you. I'm sorry if you felt I was attacking your dad's situation, as it was never my intention. I didn't even know until much later. Having been in a similar situation by the sounds of it, I should have known to be more understanding. You're a young woman anyway, so I should have followed the laws of chivilry in any case. As I said, much of my drama had very little to do with your RfA. I'm sorry if my actions have tainted this great experience for you. I wish you well & although you probably wont want to immediately, I hope we can continue being friends at a later time when this thing has calmed down a bit... Thanks Riana... Spawn Man 06:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
Things seem to be working fine. No problems yet. Regards. -- P.K.Niyogi 07:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Howdy!
You're back! And you're currently running an RfA! Damnit, I need to go around and let people know that if they ever do RfA they are to tell me so I can support them. It's kind of an ugly place sometimes, which is why I don't keep very good track of it. Anyway, I am well! I just registered for the French language Wikipedia today, which is making me very nervous. My French isn't so great, and I certainly don't know a lot of the technical terms. Plus I'm terrified of using English edit summaries by accident. And, uh, real life is good, too! Swamped at work and currently enjoying a delightful ice storm in my part of the world, but I have lemon ginger tea and constant access to the internet, so it's not too bad. I hope you're doing well! I'd wish you good luck with the RfA, but it seems you don't need it. Cheers! -- Merope 18:46, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I know you weren't hitting me up for a !vote. I was just surprised, is all. By the way, I like the new (ish?) theme for your user and talk pages--I should really overhaul mine. Right now it's hard enough to change my quote of the week.
- Well, my part of the world is currently covered in about four inches of ice, plus quite a bit of snow on top of that. And I just know that I'll still have to go to work tomorrow--I work for a university that has cancelled classes twice in the past three decades, I think. It's not like my normally twenty minute drive took an hour and ten minutes, or anything. And I certainly didn't get stuck trying to go up a hill on my way home. *grumble* Still. Looks pretty!
- At any rate, let me know if you want any help with learning the new admin-y buttons. I know you'll do great. -- Merope 06:43, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Not quite so excellent
I'm glad to hear about your timetable -- it sounds to me like you have WAY fewer contact hours than I do (I'm currently sitting at 23 hours/week). Lucky to have so much free time. :(
Actually, I'm a little worried about that. My timetable sucks to the point where I may have to quit my after school care job, which would suck all the more because I really like working there. :( On the plus side, it's market day today (O-week rocks!), and the Apple stall people gave me two iTunes cards just for having my iBook with me. So far, that brings the total I've ripped Apple off since starting Uni to $10.14, but I'm working on that.
I should probably go do something productive. Talk to you soon! :) Oh, and I'm glad to see your RFA is doing so well! Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 00:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
