[edit] Brick

Made for just under $500,000 Brick stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Brendan Frye. Brendan is in the know of the intricacies of the "upper crust" of druggie socialites, but chooses to live outside them until he gets a terrified phone call from Emily. She tearfully tells him that "she didn't know that the brick was bad" and that "the Pin's on it now", and implores him to help her, which kicks off the chain of events that make up the movie. Rian often has said that he looked to the novels of Dashiell Hammett as inspiration for the films unique use of language. While the film is classified as a Film Noir Johnson claims that during production no references where made to Film Noir as to focus the production away from reproducing a genre piece. Brick is now available on DVD from Focus Features.

[edit] The Brothers Bloom

The Brothers Bloom is the next film from Johnson, which is started filming March 19th, 2007. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, and Rinko Kikuchi.

[edit] Other Projects

Rian directed the video for The Mountain Goats' song "Woke Up New" in 2006.

Rian has made a number of short films, some of which are available on his website. His short film from high-school titled Ninja Ko is available as an Easter-egg on the Brick DVD.
