Rhytida australis is a terrestrial gastropod in the family Rhytididae, endemic to Stewart Island in New Zealand. It is found in the northern part of Stewart Island, living in forest litter and under the bark of rimu trees.
The shell is rather small, depressed, resembling Rhytida meesoni but with deeper whorls. The surface is deeply malleated but becoming smooth in and around the umbilicus. Coloration is yellowish-brown, with the umbilicus reddish-brown.
Major diameter is up to 13 mm, and height up to 8 mm.
