Rheydt Hauptbahnhof (usually translated from German as Rheydt Central Station, short form: Rheydt Hbf) is a railway station in Mönchengladbach, Germany. It is unique in the fact that it is actually the only Hauptbahnhof in Germany that does not have a city associated with it. This is the result of the merger of the city Rheydt into Mönchengladbach in the late 1970s.

[edit] Rheydt Hbf and Mönchengladbach

Normally, the station should have been renamed to Mönchengladbach-Rheydt, but since the city of Mönchengladbach did not want to foot the bill for renaming the station, the Deutsche Bundesbahn retained the name (and the name of the suburban stop Rheydt-Odenkirchen). Therefore, Mönchengladbach is the only city in Germany to have two central stations, Mönchengladbach Hbf and Rheydt Hauptbahnhof.
