From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rhea Hughes is a sports radio personality for 610 WIP (AM) in Philadelphia. Airing from 5:30am till 10:00am Eastern time, along with co-hosts Angelo Cataldi and Al Morganti, the “Morning Show” is one of the more popular radio shows in the Philadelphia area. Hughes can be considered the voice of “sanity” between Angelo and Al’s distinct personalities.
[edit] Career
Hughes joined WIP in 1992 as a producer and traffic announcer after covering the Philadelphia Eagles as a reporter, adding a female voice and perspective to the show. After becoming a regular co-host, Callers immediately began questioning her credibility as it related to sports (as the 4 major sports are dominantly male), however she soon gained respect of some WIP listeners. In 2005 The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that she signed a three-year extension worth nearly $200,000 per year. In Februrary 2006, Hughes had an opportunity to headline her own weekly two-hour show every Saturday.
Hughes formerly served as the P.A. announcer for her alma mater, Temple University women's basketball team. She was fired in December of 2005 for refusing to read an advertisement for rival radio station ESPN 920-AM. She has also done sideline reporting for the Philadelphia Soul's Arena Football League team.
