Reza Abdoh

Reza Abdoh (February 23, 1963, in Tehran, Iran - May 12, 1995 in New York City) Iranian-born American director and playwright who shocked and amazed audiences with his work with the theater ensemble Dar a Luz of such revolutionary productions as Quotations from a Ruined City Workshop, Footsteps in The Dark (co-written with Frank Ambriz), Simon Bocanegra, The Hip-Hop Waltz of Eurydice, Bogeyman, and Tight, Right, White; works which confronted such issues as race, class, and AIDS, the disease which claimed Abdoh's life at the age of 32. Abdoh also directed avant-garde productions of classics like King Lear and Oedipus as well as the experimental film The Blind Owl. He is the subject of the book Reza Abdoh by Daniel Mufson.
