Reynosa was founded the 14th of March 1749 by José de Escandon y Helguera the Count of Sierra Gorda, and 279 Habitants. But due to flooding in the area on the 4th of July 1802, they decided to move 5 miles to the east keeping the same margin between them and the Rio Grande. It wasent until 1926 that the state government recognized Reynosa as a city.

The city is located in the northeast of México in the state of Tamaulipas on the border of the Texas cities of Hidalgo and Pharr in the United States. According to the Mexican census of 2005 it is the largest city of Tamaulipas, with a population of 507,998 in the city and 526,888 in the municipality of which it is municipal seat. The municipality has an area of 3,156.34 km² (1,218.67 sq mi) and includes much rural territory and many small communities outside of Reynosa.

Reynosa is a primarily industrial city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It is located at 26.08° N 98.28° W, across the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) from the McAllen metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Texas. Although the official 2005 census figures put the population of Reynosa at 507,998 for the city and 526,888 for the municipality, many officials and local press challenge the number and place it well above a million citizens. The agriculture that grows there include corn, cotton and fruit.

The metropolitan area of Reynosa is home to many maquiladoras, whose products are distributed internationally. Many companies around the world have focused on the Reynosa and McAllen, Texas area because of the opportunity for trade. Reynosa is connected to McAllen by two bridges: McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge and the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. A third one, Anzalduas Bridge, will soon be completed. These bridges help to facilitate international trade. Because of all of the international bridges; the city receives a lot of traffic from other cities in northern Mexico.

In recent years, Reynosa has seen an increase in its population as thousands of workers from different parts of the country, most notably from the State of Veracruz, seek better work opportunities in the city's maquiladora sector and in the oil industry. POR ACÁ SOMOS LA MERA VENA
