Rex Martin was born on July 12, 1960, in Burlington, Iowa. He was raised in Stronghurst, IL and graduated from high school in Chillicothe, IL. He married Margreth Trümpi of Ennenda, Switzerland in 1989.

Martin is one of the world's virtuoso tuba players, appearing on over 70 symphony orchestra recordings.[1] He primarily studied under Edward Livingston and Arnold Jacobs, though he also took lessons with Edward Kleinhammer.

  • In 1998 Martin began a twice yearly series of master classes in Castagneto Carducci, Italy. In these classes he have worked with some of the finest professional brass players in Italy.
  • In 1995, Martin was the host of the 1995 International Tuba Euphonium Conference, at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
  • As a conductor and clinician, Martin has worked with the brass sections of symphony orchestras in Mexico City, Osaka, Malmö, (Sweden), Stavanger, (Norway), Rome, and Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Sonderborg, and Alborg Denmark.
  • Martin has presented recitals and master classes at the prestigious Blekinge International Brass Academy in Karlskrona, Sweden five times.
  • Martin has presented master classes and recitals at the Spanish Brass Festival in Valencia, Spain.
