Talk:Reverse-biased

The following text is from Idiot Diode, which appears to be the same thing.
Image:Idiot-diode.GIFAn Idiot Diode is a Diode that is purposly connected in reverse bias across the power terminals of a device to be protected from reverse voltage. The name Idiot Diode may sound funny but its a well suited. It protects expensive or valuable electronics from being ruined by an IDIOT hooking up the power backwards. An Idiot Diode is not a special type of diode but rather a name for a way of using a diode, they are usually silicone because si diodes tend to short out (a good thing in this case) when too much current flows through them. They are usually used in conjunction with a fuse to pevent catastropic falure.
I've made Idiot Diode a redirect page to here. If I'm wrong and this is a different thing, my apologies. Marasmusine 10:20, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
