Revolution (political group)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Revolution, a revolutionary socialist youth organization, was founded in the UK by Workers Power. According to its statutes and manifesto it is organizationally independent from Workers Power, but it works in political solidarity with them. It has groups in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Indonesia as well as members scattered across the globe.

It was formed in the mid 90's at the beginning of the anti-capitalist movement in Europe. Interventions into the EuroMarches in Amsterdam and support for the Liverpool Dockers strike were amongst the its first campaigns. Now the group intervenes heavily into the anti capitalist movement and anti war movements. It has raised the slogan for a Youth International to come out of the European Social Forum and World Social Forum bodies to unite the struggles of young people against globalization and imperialism.

In 2006, following a split in the League for the Fifth International (of which Workers Power is the British section) independent members of Revolution including the German, Czech and Swiss groups formed a tendency called "Independent Revolution" or iRevo.[1]. This was on the tail of the 2006 Revolution International Delegates Conference, where the Australian section of Revolution was desectionalised following a resolution supported only by the L5I delegates present at conference.

The iRevo tendency refused to accept the decisions of this conference and was expelled from Revolution in October, 2006, the Australian group has now joined them. They also have supporters in the UK group.
