[edit] Plot summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The story starts out with Alicia Rivera in dance class with her friend Olivia. She loves jazz class because Massie isn't there, and she is the most popular there. After class is over while they are in the locker rooms Alicia talks to the other girls and they convince her to host her own slumber party on a Friday night instead of going to Massie's.

The next day at school while Alicia is getting stuff out of her locker and talking to Massie, Kristen, and Dylan, Olivia comes over and spills out all of Alicia's slumber party plans in front of Massie (not knowing it was a secret) and Massie gets ticked off and calls Alicia an EW (Eternal Wannabe)and leaves Kristen and Dylan leaving Alicia feeling guilty that she wanted to be more independent.

Massie's parents redo the barn into a gym with huge TVs and other expensive things. Massie claims the whole thing cost "A million dollars or something". Before the mirrors go up on Friday's sleepover Massie, Claire, Dylan, and Kristen do a mural. They tell Alicia to come over because they need to talk. The theme being "In with Claire, Out with Alicia" they embarrass her and Alicia gets completely kicked out of the Pretty Committee. After Alicia sees this, she runs outside crying. Claire's younger brother, Todd, and his little friend Tiny Nathan see Alicia leaving sadly and promise to help her in a way, by spying on the Pretty Committee. Alicia and Todd strike up a deal and Alicia leaves feeling a bit happier than before.

Before in the OCD Uniform Contest(in the 2nd book) Alicia and Olivia cheated by switching boxes for votes for the fashion contest, so they win and go off to meet Lucinda and the rest of the staff in Teen People. Lucinda loves the looks of both girls and offers them a photo shoot near Christmas. Lucinda tells them to get pictures of their other pretty-in-a-normal way friends. Then Lucinda gives them both a Dixon, which she says Avril Lavigne will be wearing at the photo shoot.

Alicia has a good friend, Olivia (who she calls Faux-livia because of the fake scarves she bought) in which she has dance class with. Olivia often helps her with her problems with The Pretty Committee and dealing with people like Massie. She also plays a small part in helping Alicia get Harrison's phone number from his younger brother. And Alicia states that she is really liking "Faux-livia" that day, which is rare because she's usually noted as an airhead with a pretty face. Faux-livia also consists of helping Alicia find a "New Pretty Committee" by looking for replacement Dylan and Kristen's. But soon Alicia figures, if they can't find new ones, settle for the old. And they make a plan to win Dylan and Kristen back to make their own Pretty Committee. Faux-livia proceeds to be part of this group, in which she's very excited. They give Kristen and Dylan faux-livia's fake scarves and that marks their connection with the ultra-pretty committee. Massie finds out and when Olivia and Alicia go to the Teen People fashion shoot, they mess everything up. They all apologize at the end and explain everything, and Alicia plus Claire are in the Pretty Committee once more.
