[edit] Plot
Arlen Methodist's male pastor retires and is replaced by a woman. She holds a welcoming party where she brings a lutefisk dish indicative of her Minnesota heritage. Unknown to everyone, Bobby eats the entire dish making Rev. Stroup assume someone threw it away because he didn't want a woman reverend. The lutefisk makes Bobby sick and gives him diarrhea, which leads to his grandfather, Cotton Hill, lighting a match when he enters the bathroom in order to get rid of the bad smell, but Cotton dropped his match book on his way out of the bathroom. In a panic, Bobby lights and drops a match into a wastebasket, leading to the burning of Arlen Methodist.
Stroup suspects that the church burning was done as a hate crime. Cotton's apprehension to having a woman Reverend makes him the prime suspect in the church arson.
