[edit] Story
After seeing the giant lightning crash that rescued Tristan Taylor (Hiroto Honda in the English-language manga and Japanese versions) and Téa Gardner (Anzu Mazaki), Yugi Muto (romanized as Yugi Mutou in the English-language manga) is rushing through the forest in hopes of finding what caused it. He finds himself on a beach, Tristan and Téa face down on the ground. However, a voice tells him not to worry, and Yugi turns to see Solomon Muto (Sugoroku Mutou), Yugi's grandfather, waving at him. With tears down his face, Yugi runs and hugs Solomon, telling him never to scare him like that again.
Later, all of them (except Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi)) are gathered round a campfire, Téa explaining to Grandpa exactly how they got there. Grandpa says it was the same with him, but it's good they're all together now. However, Yugi corrects him, saying that since Joey stepped on a different tile, he didn't go to the same place, and is still out there somewhere. Of course, Tristan sees it all as Joey's fault, since he's the one that won the holiday!
Somewhere above them, Joey, on the back of Baby Dragon, notices a campfire. Commanding the dragon to go in for a closer look, he shouts out to the people by the campfire, but he leans to much and falls off. Below, just as Téa his assuring Yugi that Joey is probably fine, and that he would probably be dropping by at any time. Then, who should drop in, but Joey, quite literally. Téa screams at the shock of Joey hanging upside-down in front of her, the rest of the gang as shocked as she is.
Joey quickly tucks into the food, and Téa says that now they're all together they should start looking for a way out. Yugi turns into the Pharaoh, who explains his theory that they have become part of some kind of real-life version of the Capsule Monsters board game, and navigating through it may be a bit of a challenge. Joey quickly steps in with a possible solution, presenting the map that he found earlier, and Grandpa says that it looks just like the floor of the Pyramid. Then Joey points out a strange house on the map, but before they could respond, Téa freaks everyone out by suggesting that the flowers around them just moved. Joey throws a flaming torch at them, and they show their true form. They are not flowers, they're Flower Wolves: A Duel Monster.
Everyone is lost for words, but the Pharaoh suggests that they try and play the game, and summons his Celtic Guardian capsule. Now they know what they're for, and the rest of the gang play their own monsters. Grandpa attempts to play his, but notices that his Capsule is silver instead of gold. He works out that high-level monsters like Summoned Skull take more time to recover after being used!
The wolves are no match for Celtic Guardian, Baby Dragon, and Thunder Kid, who quickly begin to take them out, but the trouble is that there's so many of them they can't do it fast enough. One of them manages to get through, and bites Baby Dragon, causing Joey to feel pain. Then they same thing happens to Tristan's Thunder Kid and Yugi's Celtic Guardian! The Pharaoh says that they need a strategy, and comes up with the idea that they might be able to blind them long enough to escape. Celtic Guardian throws his sword into the air, and Thunder Kid fires at it, causing it to light up immensely. When the light cleared, the gang had gone, leaving only some very angry wolves.
Later, they all find a nice spot in the forest to recover, when Tristan and Joey proclaim: Victory Dance! This makes everyone smile, but Pharaoh warns Yugi that he's not sure their friends realise how dangerous the game really is. They all now possess a monster, and when those monsters are attacked, their owners feel the pain.
Suddenly, Joey and Tristan collapse, and they say that they need food and are wasting away to nothing. That's when they remember that they left all their stuff back at the campsite. Then Grandpa reveals that he has a bag of food with him, but teases them by only giving some to Yugi and Téa.
Then Yugi looks worried, pointing out the strange noise that they can hear. Then Joey notices that the mountains look like they're moving, but Yugi realises that it's not the mountains that are moving: it's them! This isn't just an island, it's an island turtle! And it's sinking! They abandon the island, having to swim the rest of the way, and Tristan points out that they had landed next to the ruins of some temple.
The doors to the temple open, and Yugi transforms back into the Pharaoh, saying that they should play along and go inside. Inside they find an empty room filled with nothing but a lamp that the Pharaoh recognises as the card, the Ancient Lamp. The doors shut, trapping them inside, and La Jinn the Mystical Genie appears. Pharaoh says them to stand back, telling Yugi that he can't help but think that it's his fault. Pharaoh summons Celtic Guardian, but Grandpa points out that it's not powerful enough, which La Jinn quickly proves.
As if that's not enough, the doors to temple open once again, water flooding in. Suddenly, the water freezes, imprisons Grandpa and Téa in the ice, and blocks their only exit. Then, an evil monster (Neo Aqua Madoor) bursts out of the ice, trapping them between the fire of La Jinn, and the ice of the monster. After some encouragement from Tristan and Joey, however, the Pharaoh comes up with a plan. Since the world is based on the rules of Capsule Monsters, the fire and the ice would be able to collide and destroy both of the monsters at once! And that's exactly what they do. The attack of both monsters barely miss them, and hit the other one, releasing Grandpa and Téa.
All of a sudden, an Egyptian tablet rises in front of them, and Grandpa reads the encryption aloud.
Before the shadows blanket the land,
Go to the fortress of fear.
Locate the place where the spirit sleeps,
And the pathway you see will appear.
It's some kind of riddle, and it doesn't take long for them to figure it out. The map that Joey has shows a strange house, and that must be the fortress of fear. They must have to get there before sunset, and hopefully the pathway home will appear. But, it doesn't look too close, and it won't be long until sunset, but Yugi says that they can definitely make it if they try. They will find the castle before sunset and get back home!
