Return of the Technodrome is episode number 18 of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. It is the final episode of season 2 (1988). This episode of the show was produced by Kara Vallow and written by Michael Reaves. It originally aired on December 1, 1988, in syndication. It is available on the DVD box set released on April 26, 2005.
At Channel 6, Irma asks her friend April O'Neil when April shall meet the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (TMNT). April says they are not the most exciting thing of her life. Burne Thompson tells April it is a slow news day and to go out and make news
Meanwhile in the sewer system under New York City, Splinter leaves the TMNT for three days fast and meditation which is a pilgrimage he does every 3 years. April comes and hopes for a story. Rahp says its a big city something is bound to happen.
Krang wants to destroy the TMNT, saying Shredder has let those turtles escape for the last time after he says but krang. Krang wants to re-power the Technodrome and send it from Dimension X to Earth. Shredder is shocked at this. Shredder takes Bebop and Rocksteady to Niagara Falls at the border between the United States and Canada, use Krangs "polarity deflector" to transport the power to the Technodrome. Krang moves the technodrome to the space time coordiance and as the technodrome moves Krang says all Foot soilders and Rock soilders to your battle stations. Shredder has taken over the niagara falls power plant and contacts krang this and he is happy he had done something right.
When a black out strikes against New York City, the staff at Channel 6 are discussing what is happening. April contacts the TMNT. Leo assumes its the work of shredder and krang and mikey thought splinter had the pyshic stuff. Donatello tries to listen to the plan through the communicator, but tries to get bugs out of the communicator. The turtles discover that Krang and Shredder are behind this and the communicator bearly speaks up as they hear their plan. The technodrome gtes more power and krang is happy at this and knows that the turtles will stop shredder and sends him a small contigent of foot and rock soilders; which makes him happy.
When the TMNT and April arrive at the Niagara Falls in their blimp, they are attacked by Bebop and Rocksteady. Bebop fires his laser gun, shooting down the blimps glider. Donatello saves the TMNT and April by using the blimps remote control, sending down the ropes from the blimps balloon. The TMNT and April fly away and land safe, hanging in the ropes as the glider falls down the waterfall.
The TMNT then encounter Splinter, who had seen the electricity coming out from the plant, creating a dimensional portal. Krang has the technodrome prepare anti-gravity plates and it heads to the portal. The TMNT rush into the plant after distracting the foot and rock soilders and rocksteady and stop the flow of the river. But Krang; upset when the portal had closed and shredder and bebop were aware of it; has power in reserve to re-open the dimensional portal, and the Technodrome arrives. Krang is happy that the turtles will soon be crushed. The turtles; panic; are now surrounded by hundreds of viechles the foot and rock soldiers are in (They wonder what to do now and raph says they could always hope an asteroid hits) and just as shredder orders them to attack, Krang wants to finish them himself. the turtles gets scared and hope there is hope. Krang bids them farewell and tries to fire a laser gun from the Technodrome, but the gun doesn't work because Krang used to much power to keep the dimensional portal open.
Chased by Shredder, the TMNT must escape back to New York City and they want to know what krang's plan is. Splinter says they have to wait, but fear it may be too late when they find out. Shredder gets to the technodrome and is upset that they escaped and its monotnous. krang vows they won't get far.
Shredder reactivates the Hydro Electric Plant, which recharges the Technodrome. Krang burrows the Technodrome underground, causing an earthquake in New York City. Krang then takes over the TV:s in the city, and broadcast that he demands that the inhabitants must leave the city within 24 hours, and krang had told shredder he plotted to take over the evacuated city when it is evacuated and have it as their base of operations and from there they will use the capabilities to conquer the planet and shredder likes it and krang asks if he really has any choice. If they don't leave the city, Krang will cause a bigger earthquake, destroying the city.
The TMNT, who had heard Krangs message, search the underground and discover the Technodrome, and splinter said so begins the final battle. The TMNT break inside it by a bomb thing. KRang detects security breach and shredder knows its the turtles. Splinter stops the turtles as he senses shredder is near and goes in the techndorome's power room to stop shredder so he does not interfere and on the other side shredder senses yoshi and goes to deal with him. while Splinter fights Shredder on a bridge inside the Technodrome (shredder tells splinter its time for their final confrontation hamoto yoshi and splinter says yoshi is no more its only splinter and shredder says soon he will be gone as well), the TMNT fight Bebop, Rocksteady and the Foot Soldiers in the control room (after telling them not to use their weapons as it will damage the circuitry) and the and tie them up. Donatello tries to change the wires in the control room. the turtles leave as bebop vows the turtles will get it.
When the inhabitants refuse to leave New York City, Krang tries to start a new earthquake. But because Donatello changed the wires in the control room, the seismic polarities are changed, causing the Technodrome to drill deeper underground, reaching the Earth's core. The TMNT leave the Technodrome, but reminds that they forgot Splinter. However, Splinter just manage to escape. Krang blames Shredder, whom is last seen dangling by his cape at the end of the now half broken bridge he fought Splinter. The Technodrome comes down to the Earths core and appears to sink in lava.
In the New York City sewer system, the TMNT celebrate their victory with pizza and april comments that it was a story, and that she is the only 100 % human in the TMNT sewer lair.
