Resen (city)

Resen (Macedonian: Ресен) is a city in Republic of Macedonia. It has about 18,000 inhabitants. Resen rises 880 meters above sea level. It is very close to Lake Prespa and the only town in Prespa Region.
History of Resen dates since the Roman empire when the famous road VIA IGNACIA was passing by the city. During the Middle Ages, wider Prespa (nowadays in Greece and Republic of Macedonia) was a setlement Tsar Samuil of Bulgaria for a brief time. After the Battle of Klyuch, some of Samuil's blinded soldiers were settled in a village on the shore of the lake.[citation needed] The Byzantines called this settlement Asamati.[citation needed] The Greek meaning of this word is "settlement of one-eyed people".[citation needed]
Notable natives are influential Bulgarian Interwar politician and Prime Minister Andrey Lyapchev (1866–1933), VMRO foundation member Hristo Tatarchev (1869–1952) and writer Simeon Radev (1879–1967)
