Rescue Raiders was a game by Sir-Tech Software for the Apple II. In it, the player flies a Choplifter-esque helicopter over a user-created armored column. The trick is to create the perfect column (made up of tanks, soldiers, etc) that can overtake the enemy's column (running in the other direction), and get a truck filled with explosives to the other end of the board.
In 1991 Three-Sixty Pacific released Armor Alley, somewhat of a remake of Rescue Raiders, for the Mac and DOS PCs. It included network support which allowed multiple players to go head-to-head.
There is a remake made for the GBA called Super Army War.
