Wikipedia:Requests for mediation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Requests for Mediation is the second step in formal dispute resolution on Wikipedia. Mediation is carried out by members of the Mediation Committee; mediation is a formal but voluntary process to assist individuals in developing a mutual agreement to resolve a dispute. Mediation does not provide binding resolution to disputes; mediators can not, do not, and will not issue rulings on disputes.
Before requesting formal mediation, parties should have made an attempt at some form of informal resolution; disputes that have not attempted informal resolution may be rejected with the direction to attempt informal resolution. Parties may find Requests for Comment or the Mediation Cabal useful steps prior to formal mediation. Disputes that cannot be resolved through mediation, or where the parties are unwilling to take part in voluntary dispute resolution, may be referred to the Arbitration Committee for binding resolution, including sanctions.
The Mediation Committee considers requests to open new cases only where all parties to the dispute indicate willingness to take part in mediation; parties are given seven days from the time of the initial request to indicate their participation. The Mediation Committee has adopted a strict format for all requests, and enforces it without exception. Requests that ignore or otherwise fail to follow the format are rejected regardless of the request's merit. The procedure for accepting requests is outlined in the Guide to filing a Request for Mediation.
Preliminary acceptance of a case by the Mediation Committee is an indication that all the requirements for mediation have been met and that all parties have indicated agreement. Cases are not assigned to mediators; each mediator is granted free reign to mediate cases at his or her discretion. Acceptance of a request by the Committee does not guarantee that a mediator will agree to mediate the dispute. Parties are expected to watchlist the case page and follow any developments; it is the responsibility of the parties to follow the progress of the mediation.
Requests for Mediation is not an appropriate venue for debating the merits of a given request; the purpose of Requests for Mediation is to identify disputes requiring mediation and indicate the fulfillment of all prerequisites to acceptance. Parties are prohibited from debating in this forum; statements that cannot be presented in the form of unbiased bullet points will be summarily removed or refactored by a member of the Committee. Non-committee members may not remove anything from this page or accept/reject cases; this may only be done by members of the Mediation Committee.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mudaliar - many attempts at resolution over 4 months. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sengunthar
[edit] Issues to be mediated
- In article, Mudaliar which is a title used by many grousps, group Sengunthar is being slandered against while groups like Kondai Katti Vellala are being deleted.
- In articles, Sengunthar , Sengundhar, kaikolar, Kaikolan, the group Sengunthar is being slandered and vandalized by User:mudaliar and his socks. A check user has revealed that he is using socks for over a period of 4 months. These 4 are exact identical articles and need to be merged. [1]
- In article, Devadasi, slandering of Sengunthar is happening. It is being falsely claimed that Sengunthar / Kaikolar are the origin of all devadasis throught India, when infact the name of the group is called Isai Vellala, who had been using Kaikolar name for hiding their origin as Vellala. This editing started only after the revert wars in article Mudaliar proving that the edits are maliciously motivated.

This is a contentious debate that has rolled across many pages for many months. No matter how many times these issues are thoroughly discussed and temporarily resolved by a majority of editors, after a few weeks the issues returns with text being inserted that opens up the debate once again.
Here are two recent suveys: Talk:Nazism#Survey, and Talk:Nazism#Survey:_redirecting_National_Socialism.
Here is the debate from 2004: Talk:Socialism/Socialism_and_Nazism

[edit] Issues to be mediated
- Should the libertarian/Austrian School analysis of national socialism, Nazism, and Fascism as forms of "collectivism" and thus related to all forms of socialism (and even the New Deal of Roosevelt) be considered not marginal but so important and major a school of scholarship as to be placed in various entry leads and occupy a relatively major part of various entries?
- Is anyone who publishes a book or article on fascism, nazism, or collectivism to be considered a major scholar on the subject, or is it appropriate for a majority of editors active on a page to agree on which scholars are considered the leading scholars and highlight their views over more marginal views?
[edit] Additional issues to be mediated
- Do the majority of major scholars of fascism consider fascism a "far-right" form or usually allied with the political far right?
- Do the majority of major scholars of Nazism consider Nazism a representative form of socialism?
- Should National Socialism redirect to Nazism or National Socialism (disambiguation)?

It is possible that some of the editors listed are away from their keyboard, or will disagree. Other editors have indicated that they might opt themselves into this mediation. PLEASE leave this page active for a full seven days, since at least two of us on different sides of this dispute want to move forward. Thnaks for being flexible. --Cberlet 20:42, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
