[edit] Statement of the dispute

Mattisse is continually violating WP:POINT by maliciously tagging and retagging multiple articles in "tagging sprees." She has used multiple sockpuppets to generate an artificial impression that such tagging is supported by multiple editors.

Mattisse has been judged by admin Kilo-Lima as having used three sockpuppets the day after having made an agreement with admin Rdsmith4 not to use sockpuppets again. After her previous incidents of sockpuppetry, she should have been indefinitely blocked for breaking this agreement.

The evidence also makes it highly probable that she has used four further sockpuppets after those three were blocked, intentionally using a different computer to evade checkuser. This continued use of sockpuppets combined with increased attempts to evade detection after having definitely having broken the agreement in the first place is unacceptable. Even if some of the tagging and edits were justifiable, not all of the tagging and edits were appropriate and the larger pattern suggests that the tagging and other editing activity to a specific set of articles was motivated at least partiallty by a desire to harass certain users. Due to the apparent stalking of Rosencomet's work and continued deception, some administrative action should be taken with respect to Mattisse.

[edit] Description

Partial list of articles involved (from User talk:Hanuman Das)

Please note that almost all of these have also been more recently harassed by Timmy12. What are the chances of that? What are the chances that out of 49 articles abusively tagged by Mattisse and her sockpuppets in August/September, 44 of them (90%) would be also targeted for more or less the same type of tagging activity by Timmy12? —Hanuman Das

[edit] Evidence of disputed behavior

(Provide diffs. Links to entire articles aren't helpful unless the editor created the entire article. Edit histories also aren't helpful as they change as new edits are performed.)

[edit] Establishing the pattern

  1. First tagging spree, ~40 articled tagged during about a 2 hour period (20 August 2006): Starwood Festival, WinterStar Symposium, Association for Consciousness Exploration, Trance Mission, Amampondo, Steve Blamires, Anodea Judith, Harvey Wasserman, Jesse Wolf Hardin, ACE, Matthew Abelson, Jay Stevens, Taylor Ellwood, Louis Martinie', Patricia Monaghan, Michael T. Gilbert, Laurence Galian, Philip H. Farber, Sally Eaton, Jeff Rosenbaum, Nema, Martin A. Lee, Stephen Kent (musician), Yaya Diallo, Badal Roy, Halim El-Dabh, Starwood Festival, Brian Auger, Margot Adler, Association for Consciousness Exploration, Ralph Metzner, Church of the SubGenius, Victoria Ganger, Isaac Bonewits, Dagmar Braun Celeste, Christopher Penczak, Diana L. Paxton, Stanley Krippner, Deborah Lipp, Phyllis Curott, Miriam Chamani
  2. Second tagging spree, 28 articles in less than 4 hours (21 August 2006): Patricia Monaghan, Starwood Festival, Association for Consciousness Exploration, WinterStar Symposium, Margot Adler, Steve Blamires, Isaac Bonewits, Muruga Booker, Dagmar Braun Celeste, Miriam Chamani, Phyllis Curott, Rusted Root, Sally Eaton, Philip H. Farber, Selena Fox, Stephen Gaskin, Wavy Gravy, Robert Shea, Martin A. Lee, Nema, Laurence Galian, Michael T. Gilbert, Harvey Wasserman, Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, Fred Alan Wolf, Patricia Telesco, Nicki Scully, Philip H. Farber
  3. Using multiple sockpuppets to influence an AfD on Philip H. Farber which she opened herself. Sockpuppets voting or commenting: GBYork, NLOleson, Gjeatman, AgastNeey (the last two appear to have been intended to look like other people's socks voting to keep in order to discredit the AfD)
  4. First sockpuppet, GBYork (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) had been created earlier (11 August) and voted in a number of AfDs, now used to attempt to bias Philip H. Farber AfD and then to tag articles: Afd, AfD, AfD, AfD, Church of All Worlds, Oberon Zell Ravenheart, Gaia philosophy, Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, Gavin Frost, Paul Winter, Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, Green Egg, Baba Raul Canizares, Airto Moreira, Starwood Festival, Society for Creative Anachronism, Christopher Penczak, Paul Winter Consort, Taylor Ellwood, Isaac Bonewits, Janet Farrar, Steward Farrar, Selena Fox, Gavin Frost, Yvonne Frost, Ralph Metzner, Christopher Moore, Nema, Jonathan Ott, Robert Shea, R. U. Sirius, Robert Shea, Deborah Lipp, Michael T. Gilbert (AfD), Starwood Festival
  5. Second sockpuppet, NLOleson (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 20 August) continues the spree: Sikiru Adepoju, David Jay Brown, Terrence McKenna, WinterStar Symposium, Starwood Festival, Jeff Rosenbaum, Starwood Festival, Raymond Buckland, Paul Winter, Spirit Song, Yvonne Frost, Dennis Chernin, Ina May Gaskin, Gavin Frost, Yvonne Frost, Gavin Frost, Church of the SubGenius, Diana L. Paxton, Ivan Stang, Jay Stevens, Patricia Telesco, Harvey Wasserman (adding prod2 to an article prodded by Mattisse), Robert Anton Wilson, Robert Anton Wilson, Babatunde Olatunji, Philip H. Farber AfD, WinterStar Symposium, Starwood Festival, Association for Consciousness Exploration, Cyro Baptista, Yaya Diallo, Halim El-Dabh, Gaelic Storm, Jeff McBride, Muruga Booker, Patricia Telesco, Robert Anton Wilson, Jay Stevens, Diana L. Paxton, Starwood Festival, John Bronson
  6. Third sockpuppet, ABSmyth (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 21 August): Stanley Krippner, Anodea Judith, Stephen Gaskin, Starwood Festival, M. Macha Nightmare, Muruga Booker, Isaac Bonewits, Wavy Gravy
  7. Fourth sockpuppet: Flinders (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 25 August): Talk:Magick, Starwood Festival (linking every other word in the article, clearly intended to be disruptive), Lupa (author), Church of the SubGenius, Lupa (author) (removing citation), Church of the SubGenius, J. R. "Bob" Dobbs
  8. Fifth sockpuppet, Gjeatman (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 26 August): votes in Philip H. Farber AfD, adds fake "Anne Hill" link to Starwood Festival (another sockpuppet writes the hoax article, check delete log)
  9. Sixth sockpuppet, AgastNeey (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 26 August): created solely to discredit Philip H, Farber AfD
  10. Seventh sockpuppet, NothingMuch (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 24 May, but not used in this matter until 30 August): AfDs Christopher Penczak, AfD was clearly in bad faith, Donald Michael Kraig
  11. Mattisse is caught at sockpuppetry: by Rdsmith4, blocked by Rdsmith4 at 01:58, 2 September 2006, and unblocked by Rdsmith4 at 12:18, 2 September 2006, reportedly after promising not to use any more sockpuppets, but... creates three more sockpuppets the very next day...
  12. Eighth sockpuppet, LiftWaffen (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 3 September): Stephen Kent (musician), is reported by Hanuman Das, and blocked as a sock by Kilo-Lima
  13. Ninth sockpuppet, LymphToad (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 3 September): removes link to Association for Consciousness Exploration from ACE (disambig), is reported by 999, and blocked as a sock by Kilo-Lima
  14. Tenth sockpuppet, BlackHak (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) (created 3 September): adds link to hoax article "Ann Hill" to Starwood Festival, David Jay Browm (libelling subject in edit comment), is reported as a sock by Hanuman Das, complains on Village Pump (technical) and is blocked as a sock by Kilo-Lima

[edit] Continuing the pattern

  1. Suspected eleventh sockpuppet, Timmy12 (created 8 September, suspect using a second computer to evade checkuser): Steven Gaskin (twice), Anodea Judith (again), Raymond Buckland (again), Isaac Bonewits, Deborah Lipp (again), LaSara Firefox (again), Phyllis Curott (again), among many others
  2. Timmy12 tries to make a deal with 999 @ 08:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC), and...
  3. Mattisse immediately (the same day) starts up again (after having stayed away from the articles since the last known sock was blocked ... about two months), removing links to websites of the subjects of articles (clearly vandalistic disruption in this case): Stephen Gaskin, Anodea Judith, Raymond Buckland, Oberon Zell Ravenheart, Isaac Bonewits, Deborah Lipp, Selena Fox, Jeff McBride, LaSara Firefox, Phyllis Curott, Rusted Root

[edit] Evidence supporting continuing use of sockpuppetry

[edit] Timmy12 (talk contribs)
Self-incrimination

Timmy12 identifies Aguerriero and Notinasnaid as editors who have reverted his tags, when actually they reverted Mattisse's tags [1] [2].

Articles in common with Mattisse

One article that Mattisse cannot keep her hands off is Maratha Clan System. Hmm, I wonder if Timmy12 has edited this tell-tale article?

Now why would User:Timmy12 be interested in all the articles tagged by Mattisse and Maratha Clan System, hmm? I wonder if Timmy12 has edited other Indian articles, a speciality of Mattisse?

Well, while looking for Indian articles in common, I found this, Chuck Berry...

Oh, and look! another Indian article edited by both Mattisse and Timmy12, Jaganath:

And I also have noticed Alien666 editing several of the same articles. Another sock? Explore later. :-)

But so, what are the chances of Mattisse and Timmy12 having 90% of the "Rosencomet" articles in common, PLUS Maratha Clan System AND Chuck Berry AND Jaganath? hmmm?

[edit] Timmy12 and Mattisse never edit at the same time

I've taken the edit data for the last month for both Timmy12 and Mattisse, labeled, merged, sorted and massaged it. Here are the results: Timmy12 and Mattisse have no overlapping edit sessions. Based on the data, I'd say it takes Mattisse about 10 to 15 minutes to get from one computer to the other. Based on this observation by Ekajati, the second location would appear to be a library with online access to academic journals.

[edit] Alien666 (talk contribs)

OK, then, let's look at Alien666:

Now, what are the chances of that??? Four Indian articles and Stratospheerius in common, and two of the Indian articles plus Stratospherius have been edited by all three, Mattisse, Timmy12 and Alien666.

Could both Timmy12 and Alien666 be socks of Mattisse? I'd say yes.

Many of these links fall outside of WP:NPOV Undue Weight, overstating the importance of a performer apperance at the starwood festival. As such these links can be considered a case of WP:SPAM. The links have all been added by User:Rosencomet who is connect to the event so WP:VAIN also applies.
  3. An attempt has just been started to resolve this dispute via the Mediation Cabel Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival, rather than attempt mediation the filers of this case have sought to base a case solely on the actions of one user.
  4. User:Mattisse and User:Timmy12 have been subject to a number of visious personal attacks relating to these tags. [26] [27]
  5. User Timmy12 has complained of harrassement. [28]
  6. The sockpuppet situation is old news. All puppets have ceased operating. It have been confirmed at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Mattisse that Timmy12, MaxReg are not a sockpuppet of mattise. Further the only confirmed sockpuppet User:Xampt was an account used for only three days for a total of 16 edits, the account was used to avoid the harrassesment, and did not break and wikipedia policies and guidelines. Administrators decided that no action was necessary.[29]
  7. By perpetuating the sockpuppet allegations User:Hanuman Das and User:999 are failing to assume good faith. They are failing to attempt to seek comnsensus on the underlying content issue, instead relying on personal attacks.
  8. In most other cases where mattise has added fact tags users have engaged in civil dialogue, resulting in improvements to the article in question.

  4. The rosencomet links and Starwood references are as clear a case of spam as one could want, and many of them were added by Rosencomet (talk contribs) himself, in violation of WP:EL and WP:VAIN. Matisse does not help his case by using socks, though. Guy 23:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
  5. No comment on the rest, with which I am unfamiliar, but, upon review of the relevant articles, I think that mentions of (and subsequent references to) the Starwood festival are being added to too many articles -- Samir धर्म 05:55, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

  7. No direct comment on accusations of sockpuppetry, etc. except a general skepticism, but the mass adding of external links was certainly spamming in action, and User:Rosencomet should not fool himself in believing that whatever Matisse's actions, harassment and blocking of Matisse does NOT absolve him or her of his or her own actions. --Calton | Talk 00:37, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

  9. It doesn't feel like any meaningful attempts at dispute resolution have been attempted. Those "attempts" that were listed above seemed to be more like attempts to incite a dispute rather than resolve it. Torinir ( Ding my phone My support calls E-Support Options ) 21:51, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

  12. - After having watched blatant link-spamming and the use of Wikipedia by Rosencomet for a text-book Google Bombing campaign for months now, I find this RfC rather self-serving. Read through Rosencomet's edits. I think that this is a pretty blatant effort to neutralize Mattisse for questioning this ongoing spam campaign. Dispute resolution has not been carried through, and apparently this is revenge for attempting to seek mediation in this matter. - WeniWidiWiki 07:26, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
  13. An astoundingly nasty situation. I'm particularly struck by the sense that Rosencomet et al, are using mediation not as a forum for compromise and understanding, but as an endurance event, obviously hoping to wear down participants. Between the harassment of other parties and extensive reverts of others' edits and summarizing them as "vandalism", this is one of the nastier fights I've seen on Wikipedia. --Pigman (talkcontribs) 03:46, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
  14. Per Pigman. A lot of those articles created by Rosencomet fail WP:MUSIC (or maybe related guidelines in some cases) and should be deleted too. 67.117.130.181 16:53, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
