[edit] Pamri

Final (50/0/0) ended 16:57 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Pamri (talk contribs) – Pamri has been editing for more than a year. He's not new to adminship duties, he's also an admin at the Kannada wikipedia. I've closely collaborated with Pamri on the Economy of India, which got past FAC in 5 days! I've gone through his talk pages, and he seems to have the right temperament. Besides being a good editor, he lends his comments to the AFD and FAC processes, and welcomes newbies. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:09, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: Yes, I do. Thanks for nominating and trusting me. --PamriTalk 17:01, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

  4. Strong Support because I was just wondering if Pamri is an admin or not; because he put me on to India related links; because his persuasion made me work on the telugu stub of "Economy of India" and because he appreciated my extensive copyedit of K. M. Nanavati article. Most importantly, despite the number of edits to his credit, his edits per page are less than 1.8 - it means that he covers a wide area of Wikipedia, folks!! --Gurubrahma 17:36, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

  8. Support The lack of content on his user page worries me, but the number (~3700), placement, and quality of his contribs looks solid. I also trust the nominator. -Greg Asche (talk) 19:03, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
  9. Support Although the user page (or lack therof) might seem a little worrisome, I think it's better to keep it simple than to load it with too many pictures and too much non-Wikipedia information. - Kookykman (talkcontribs)

Oppose

Neutral Neutral for now. I'd like to see a basic user page - Admins are the front-desk of wiki. Doen't need to be garish but enough to give some feel of who he is and what his interests are. Changing to Support above Dlyons493 Talk 21:09, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

And putting the six barnstars on the user page won't do the RfA cause any harm :-) Tintin 21:17, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
While I don't aim to be secretive, I am not too comfortable putting my pic/real name/other personal details on my user page unless it is absolutely necessary. That said, I have added some info to my user page, which along with the talk pages should provide some info on my interests/what I do here. If you still feel I need to disclose/add something, feel free to talk to me. Since this is my online nick, googling for my nick reveals more about me than googling for my name (which is a pretty common name). I hope that helps. --PamriTalk 07:01, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
There's certainly no need for pics or anything that would compromise an Admin's anonymity! Wiki interests are useful - they are already part of the record but someone new won't want to go digging. What you've done so far is helpful, thanks. Dlyons493 Talk 12:39, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Everything seems to be in order here, but I cannot support on one reason: your signature. I do not care for the external links to internal pages. Sorry, it's just my preference. --LV (Dark Mark) 21:54, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Having a cool & functional sig that still doesn't bother someone is a toughie. I hope my new sig doesn't bother you/others for that matter, too much. It still has one external link, but technically its not possible to avoid that. --Pamri TalkReply 05:37, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Very good, my friend. --LV (Dark Mark) 14:52, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Comments

  • There was a previous RfA, but I can't work out where it is. Anyone got the link? -Splashtalk 19:18, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Are you sure? I did a pretty thorough dig, and I didn't find one. -Greg Asche (talk) 20:37, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I just saw the username and sig that I was confusing with this one. No, there has not been a previous RfA. -Splashtalk 03:26, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. Blocking vandals and reverting vandalism. I already do the latter, especially, in articles related to India and I also add warning templates to users who vandalise. I would like to help deal with copyright problems with both article texts and images. I already spot and revert or report article text that are copyright violations. I also mark non-free images (with {{no source}}, {{no license}} or {{PUIdisputed}}), inform users who upload them and if necessary, help them tag the image. I have uploaded a fair amount of images (created by me or sourced) to commons and so would help in moving free images to commons. I also would be willing to help with any backlogs that require an admin.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. Obviously the Economy of India, since it was my first and till now, only Featured article. Of course, I was not the only contributor and it probably would not have reached FA without substantial help from Nichalp, Sundar, Saksham and many other editors. I am especially proud of this article, since, during the course of my research I could not find a single article that gave a comprehensive overview of India's economy for an average person and this article hopefully, is the first step in filling that gap. Personally, I learnt some best practices from the whole process, which I try to follow on most articles I create/edit: inline citations (using {{inote}}), references (using citation templates), using free images or fair use images after following the proper procedures), etc.,
Other contributions I am fond of are K. M. Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra, Patience Cooper (both important but unknown subjects) and the recently created Business and Economics WikiProject.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. I have not been involved in any major flareups/flamewars and I always try to resolve any issues (and have mostly succeeded) in one or two conversations. There have been some conflicts which have occurred either due to misunderstanding or because I was a 'noobie'/plain stupid and didn't use edit summaries/talk page, but they are, fortunately, very rare now. Proper use of edit summaries, talk pages, being civil and acknowledging mistakes has helped ward off any major conflict till now. I will strive to go on the same path in the future.
