[edit] M Johnson

Final (1/2/0) ending 11:00 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Withdrawn. A bit too early. I'll come back in a few months.

M Johnson (talk contribs) – Hello, my name is Mitchell Warren Johnson, and I'm a resident of Perth, Australia. I first used Wikipedia as a research tool in late 2004, and in July 2005 I began to realise what Wikipedia was. I made first ever edit on August 6, 2005, and was anonymous until November 13, 2005, when I created my account. I have made about 490 edits, and possibly another 100 anonymously. I've been here for six months as an anonymous, and 4 months as a user, learning the ropes of Wikipedia. And if voters hold talent in just as high regard as they do edit counts and amount of time spent in the project, I feel I'm more than ready!

I'm active in articles about things I love, some examples being sport, video games, The Simpsons etc. I'm in the Formula One, AFL and Perth Wikiprojects, being most active in the latter. I also have a host of edits in the User, User Talk, Talk, Wikipedia and Template namespaces to name a few. I also occassionaly fix redirects, move pages, disambiguate and more.

I think (and certainly hope) I'm never aggressive to any Wikipedians, I communicate well, and would make a good admin. I never edit anything controversial, and I don't make many mistakes. I think we need more admins, so I would like to join the ranks. I 've never really been chasing vandals, but many pages I come across should be deleted, vandals (when I come across them occasionly) should be blocked etc. I've said what I can about myself. Fellow voters, over to you--M Johnson (talkcontribs) 09:30, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Support

  1. Weak support - I'd like to see more evidence of clean-up duties being undertaken, but having said that, I've no reason not to trust this user with the admin tools. Waggers 10:09, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Oppose -- a little more time to absorb all that is Wikidpedia and I'd be happy to support down the track. A little premature for adminship responsibility now sorry. - Longhair 09:57, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
  2. Oppose. It doesn't matter whether he has 500 edits or 50,000, or whether he's been here 4 months or 4 years. M. Johnson has only 28 edits to the project namespace [1], none of which are related to administrative processes — deletion (AFD, CFD, SFD, TFD, RFD, IFD, DRV), page protection (PP, RFPP), blocking (VIP, AIV) — or to the noticeboards, or to discussions of policy. So I cannot in good faith support this candidate for adminship until some familiarity with, or even interest in, The Things Admins Do is demonstrated. I would reconsider my position gladly on this matter in a few months, or possibly even this week if he is willing to identify the IP addresses under which he previously edited. — Feb. 25, '06 [10:44] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A. I think the main sysop chores I would complete would be WP:CFD, WP:IFD, going to the admin noticeboard and checking what needs to be done, and speedy deleting some pages. Basically all of the things a admin's entitled to, and a ordinary user isn't. I think one thing I wouldn't be doing often is blocking vandals, because I'm not frequently involved in things like that--M Johnson (talkcontribs) 09:46, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I would probably have to say I'm proud to all my railway articles, which I've given a classly feel to them (eg. tables, templates, more detail). The highest contribution count I have is the Perth railway station article, which I'm editing and improving all the time. I've added some images as well, taken with my trusty digital camera. So overall, that's my greatest triumph in the article namespace--M Johnson (talkcontribs) 09:46, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. Some people might say I've been in controversial articles. I can understand their point. But in my perspective, I haven't been in too many problems. I've NEVER been in an edit war or anything like that. And of that, I'm proud! I know as an admin I may have to face more criticism than I used to, but I'm prepared to take on the extra duties that adminship may present--M Johnson (talkcontribs) 09:46, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
