[edit] Gizwidget
Final (1/3/1); Ended 04:57, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Gizwidget (talk • contribs) - Gizwidget has made some very constructive and verifiable edits during his Wikipedia career. For example, Gizwidget saved Flintlocke's Guide to Azeroth from deletion on the grounds that it was "unnotable" and was largely responsible for the creation of theList of Warcraft characters article. Gizwidget also updated a majority of the guides to instances in World of Warcraft and articles on the classes of WoW routinely after each major patch. Gizwidget has deleted many nonsense articles such as Sex Moves, Garbasail, and 早速ですが. He is an outstanding Wikipedian, and, granted the new tools, could do wonders for the Wiki community. - Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept.
- Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog and Category:Administrative backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
- A: I have taken part in many deletion debates, and so I would like to help clear the backlog. I've also helped to empty categories that are due to be deleted, so being able to complete the task and delete the category would be good. I'd like to get involved in the backlog of images to be deleted, such as orphaned fair use and replaceable fair use, and others listed at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. In addition I also revert vandalism quite a lot, so of course, having the ability to block persistent vandals would be easier than having to wait for someone else to do it.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A:The majority of my edits are minor - I ususally do small edits to pages, and I haven't created many big ones either, but I did start the Aviation portal. I've also been doing a lot of work promoting and advancing Wikiportals. I created notice templates for them both, and updated the infobox templates on both projects. I started a survey about the standard format year pages should follow and I'm also an active part of the charge to update the Wikipedia:Timeline standards as part of the years project. I did a major overhaul of Air traffic control and made large contributions to airport. I also do a lot of categorization and cleanup, and I've created many, many redirects from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles project. Oh, and just recently the Portal:Browse page that I created has been linked to on the Main Page category browse bar..
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I've never really been involved in a huge conflict, although I fear that a few posts on Flintlocke's Guide to Azeroth's talk page on its notability may have gotten a few people annoyed at me. I've been unfairly blocked once due to an edit dispute in Great Highland Bagpipe.
- Optional question from User:Seraphimblade
4. Minor one, but why did you remove a semi-protection template from Valentine's Day [1], when the article really was semi-protected? Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 04:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

- Looks like good work from a reliable editor Cooldude\ 1988 04:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC) — User:Cooldude\ 1988 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
Oppose
- Oppose No matter how you can argue, 114 edits is way, way too low for me. Edit summary usage is a dismaying 2%. Carelessness such as this doesn't bode well for me either. Please withdraw before you get snowed under. --210physicq (c) 04:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. Even if we assume that your brother really did get on, I can not in good conscience even think of giving admin tools to someone who does not protect their password well enough to prevent irresponsible little brothers from getting on. Irresponsible little brothers with a delete button can cause a decent amount of damage before a steward can desysop, and that's assuming that they aren't trying to cause disruption. -Amarkov moo! 04:38, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose per above, and because of the truly baffling answer to Q1... You've taken part in many deletion debates? Your contributions show no contributions whatsoever to deletion debates. Grandmasterka 04:54, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Neutral
- Neutral, and suggest that the nomination be withdrawn and refiled after more experience (and less displays of carelessness). Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 04:40, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
