[edit] Gamaliel

final (20/2/0) ending 04:35, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

A great user who stays cool, shows excellent judgement, and is friendly and intelligent. Definitely should be given admin duties. [[User:Neutrality|Neutrality (hopefully!)]] 04:37, Nov 15, 2004 (UTC)

  • Thanks. Hopefully I can live up to your glowing description of me. Gamaliel 16:32, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

It happened to me once, and it wasn't very funny. [[User:Sam Spade|Sam Spade Arb Com election]] 22:09, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. No. Simply put. Candidate has history of erasing worthy pages without putting them on VfD first, and who knows what he would do as a sypop. If he shows me signs of having matured, then ,maybe Ill change my vote. "Antonio Arnold Brewster Martin'
    • Perhaps Antonio is confusing me with someone else because I simply have no idea what he's talking about. I've never had any admin powers here so I don't know how I could have erased any articles. Gamaliel 07:03, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • You deleted List of Puerto Ricans once. "Antonio Julius Caesar Martin"
I was curious so I checked the List of Puerto Ricans history. Never a single edit by Gamaliel. Therefore this is a lie or confusion. D. G. 10:46, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • It could be a confusion, but I don't lie. I take Wikipedia too serious to lie. Otherwise, I wouldnt have been chosen as an administrator long ago. It could have been a confusion. Has there been any other, perhaps banned, user with that name or a similar one? "Antonio Pierce Martin"
    • I don't think you're being accused of lying, but it's simply not possible for him to have deleted List of Puerto Ricans if he wasn't an admin - so I'm guessing you've got him mixed up with someone else! Ambi 11:12, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • This article has a history going back to 19 Sep 2002, and I don't see any evidence of deletion (which a non-admin can't do), nor blanking or any other edit by Gamaliel. I'm not expressing an opinion on the nomination and Antonio can oppose for any reason at all, even that he doesn't like editors whose user names start with "G," but I'd certainly like to know when he believes Gamaliel blanked or deleted the page, and why Antonio thinks that this happened. -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 04:35, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I imagine I'd help with vandalism and, since I frequent that page already, vfd chores.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. If I had to pick a single article, it would be Lee Harvey Oswald, much of which I rewrote from scratch. It's not what I'd consider finished yet, but I think it's vastly improved from the state I found it in, which was a hodgepodge of conspiracy presented as fact. Its current state is more neutral and far more factual. Other things I think have contributed to wikipedia positively are some of the comic strip articles I've done, the category work I've completed, and the public domain photos of Carl Van Vechten I've raided from the Library of Congress and added to a number of articles.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A.My conflicts have been thankfully few. The worst is Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Rex071404, which was a long and frustrating experience. If I could wring something positive out of it, I think I've learned a lot about how to not take things so seriously in the short term because things will eventually work out in the long term, and I learned a bit more about how and when to engage trolls, POV pushers, and the like, and when to simply ignore them.
