René Simard (born February 28, 1961 in Chicoutimi) is a pop singer from Quebec, chiefly popular in the 1970s. He was discovered and managed by Guy Cloutier.
He hosted his own CBC Television series from 1977 to 1979, produced in Vancouver and featuring various international celebrity guests.
In 2006, he hosted the reality television series Ce soir, on chante on Télévision de Radio-Canada.
[edit] Controversy
His sister Nathalie Simard was also a singer under Guy Cloutier's management. In 2004 Cloutier was convicted of sexual assault on Nathalie when she was a child. Michel Vastel's 2005 book on this case, Briser le silence (Breaking the Silence), alleged that René had co-operated with Cloutier in trying to persuade Nathalie not to publicize her assaults. On November 18, 2005, René Simard held a press conference in which he denied these charges.
