Does anyone want a picture of a remote in the former GTE South area, now owned by Verizon? I can take one.

Is local loop defined as the point to which the signal goes digital or is it the entire line between the POTS telephone and the Central Office ?(The A/D conversion takes place at the remote concentrator itself)

It seems like a remote concentrator and a serving area interface are really the same thing. Is this correct? If so, that page should be merged to this article. If not, what is the difference?  –radiojon 04:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I believe the serving area interface is just a cross-connection point between the cables that come from the CO and the cables that go to the customers. It would not have any active electronic equipment in it, unlike a remote concentrator.

Right, whoever you are. SAI is a box that always has a cross connection point, and sometimes may have a RC. A post office may often have a scale for weighing mail, but a post office is not a scale or vice versa. Jim.henderson 15:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
