Rempstone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rempstone is a village and civil parish in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, although its closest town and postal address is Loughborough across the border in Leicestershire. It is situated at the crossing of the A60 and A6006 roads. It has no schools. There is a church dedicated to All Saints' which dates back to 1771. An earlier church (St Peter-in-the-Rushes) stood approximately 1km north-east of the village near the Sheepwash Brook. St Peters in the Rushes was Rempstone’s church up the 1770s. Due to its remoteness it was decided to build a church nearer the village. The present church, All Saints, was built mainly from the materials of the old church and was opened by the Archbishop of York in 1773. About 20 headstones mark the site of the original church and during the last 200 years of this church there were approximately 950 burials including that of six former Rectors of Rempstone.

Arriva Buses operate a service (No. 99) between Nottingham and Coalville which passes through the village on the A60. Nottingham East Midlands Airport is 15 minutes away.
