Remismund
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Remismund (in Galician and Portuguese, Remismundo) was the Suevi king Gallaecia (latter Galicia) from 459 to 469, son and successor of Maldras, who ruled only in the south. However, he was dethroned by Frumar and opposed in the north by Richimund. He continued to fight for his throne until 463, when both his opponents died and he became the undisputed king.
He married a Visigoth, the daughter of Theodoric II. He converted to Arianism in 465. In 467 (after the assassination of Theodoric at the hands of his brother Euric), he sacked Conímbriga. In 468, he occupied Lisbon, dominating Coimbra, Egitania, and much of Lusitania. After his death in 469, there is a period of obscurity about which little information survives.
