Relangi Venkata Ramaiah

Relangi Venkata Ramaiah (9 August 1909 - 26 November 1975) is one of the famous comedians of Telugu films in its golden years. Hailing from West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, he has acted in several films as chief comedian, hero, anti hero and character artist. Notable among his performances are from Gunasundari Katha, Missamma, Mayabazar, Donga Ramudu, Iddaru Mitrulu, Chaduvukunna Ammayilu, Appu Chesi Pappu Kudu Velugu Needalu and Vipra Narayana.
In 1954, he became the first comedian in the Indian film industry to receive the Padma Shri, a civilian award from the Government of India.
